Cyberpunk 2077 removed from PS Store, Sony offers refunds to digital owners

It’s no great secret that Cyberpunk 2077’s performance on base last-gen consoles left a lot to be desired, but CDPR’s promises of improvements down the line apparently weren’t enough. Sony has stepped in and removed the game from the PlayStation Store indefinitely, and is offering full refunds to anyone who purchased the digital version and is not satisfied with the current state of the game.

Over on playstation.com, Sony stated, “SIE strives to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction, therefore we will begin to offer a full refund for all gamers who have purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store. SIE will also be removing Cyberpunk 2077 from PlayStation Store until further notice.”

While those fortunate enough to be playing on PS5 - where the game typically holds a fairly steady 60fps - may not have noticed performance issues (aside from the bugs and glitches players on all platforms seem to be experiencing), Cyberpunk is proving far too demanding for base PS4 hardware in its current state. Significant frame rate nosedives and texture pop-in have been reported, to the point where Sony has seen fit to remove the game altogether, presumably until it is able to run at an acceptable standard for all players.

Seems like the right move. I imagine Sony was getting hammered with refund requests. Glad I got my refund and re-bought the game from GOG.

Yeah they definitely rushed this game. I’m playing on PS5 and have had a few crashes but nothing like what the PS4 and XBox One folks are experiencing. Cant wait for these patches!

Wasn’t it in production for 7 or so years? With several long extended delays. I wouldn’t say it was rushed exactly, it was pushed out on to a console generation that couldn’t handle it for sure though.

Yeah they should’ve had plenty of time and there is no good excuse they can make really other than they put it out and it just wasn’t ready. Its really not fully optimized for any platform and thats not a good look.

I hope they fix it as I’ve enjoyed it so far. I can handle bugs as I’m a Bethesda veteran lol but crashes are bit harder to deal with.
