Dead Island 2 is very much alive, according to publisher Deep Silver

It’s been six years since Dead Island 2 was announced with arguably one of the best video game trailers of all time. Since then, we’ve had nothing but delays, cancellations, and various developers take the helm. Recent news on the game has been pretty much non-existent, but today, publisher Deep Silver has confirmed that the long-awaited sequel is still in development.

Over on Twitter, one user asked Deep Silver about Dead Island 2 before another chimed in saying the game was dead and telling them to move on. Deep Silver replied saying “We wouldn’t be so sure about that.” The thread continues with the publisher saying, “We’re not quite ready to talk about the latest Dead Island just yet, but when we do, you’ll see it here!”

The last we heard on Dead Island 2 was in 2019 when the parent company of Deep Silver, THQ Nordic, confirmed that Dambuster Studios had been entrusted to lead development on the project. Developers, Techland, Yager, and Sumo Digital, have all either dropped or been removed from Dead Island 2’s development.

Despite the game’s shaky past, it seems that Deep Silver isn’t willing to shutter the game just yet, which is good news for fans who have been patiently waiting since its announcement back in 2014. We’re probably a while off until we hear anything else on Dead Island 2, but as soon as we do, we’ll update you.
