I recently bought a Samsung Note 4. It’s a great phone but has a big issue. I can’t root it, which means I can’t install ADAWAY. A great Ad blocker. Adblock is on the Android Play store but is wonky to use. And I couldn’t take Mobile Chrome anymore. The amount of ads is ridiculous.
So today I learned that Desktop extensions / Addons work with Firefox Mobile. So I installed Firefox to my phone, installed the Adblock Plus extension and now have an ad free browsing experience. I’m not sure if many people knew about that so I figured I’d pass it along.

You can install AdBlock Plus as an app on non-rooted phones. It’s not on the Play Store though. you have to get the APK here: https://adblockplus.org/en/android-install
After that, you need to manually configure a proxy because the app can’t do it for you since the device is not rooted. Instructions in this link: https://adblockplus.org/en/android-config
Is that for WiFi only?
Besides, I’m totally happy being off Chrome. It’s a bloated, memory hog of a a browser.
It would seem so, I can’t find a way to manage the proxy of the data plan connection.
Just use Firefox. Google already knows too much about us.
If you’re running stock Android, Google might still get info from you. Try cyanogenmod.
I can’t root, how am I installing Cyanogenmod?
Just give it time. They’ll have that rooted soon.
