Warzone devs says game will be a ‘constant’ through different Call of Duty releases

With the release of Call of Duty: Warzone being free to play, many fans have wondered how Warzone will fit into the Call of Duty world when the new yearly Call of Duty releases deploy.

Although we still don’t have a clear picture as to what that will look like, Infinity Ward’s Taylor Kurosaki says in an interview with GamerGen that Warzone has challenged the studios to rethink content release strategy to best support the variety of players now in Call of Duty with this being free to play.

When asked in the interview about 2020 Call of Duty game, Kurosaki says that Warzone will be the ‘through line that connects’ the various Call of Duty sub-franchises.

He also says that Warzone will be the ‘one constant’ of Call of Duty every year with the different sub-franchises of Call of Duty. It’s not clear what that means in how long they plan to support Warzone or if other Call of Duty devs will release content or maps for Warzone based off of their games.

We’re in kind of uncharted territories here. Call of Duty has been on a very regular cadence for many many years, and Warzone has made us rethink exactly how best to release new content and how to integrate it. Call of Duty is a genre in itself, there are different branches in the Call of Duty tree, but they’re all connected in some ways. Warzone will be the through line that connects all of the different various sub-franchises of Call of Duty.

It’s going to be really cool to see how the different sub-franchises sort of come in and out of focus, but Warzone will be the one constant.

Warzone devs tease content to come in Season 4, clarifies Fortnite-like events comments

Infinity Ward and Raven Software devs have given a very first preview of some content to expect with Call of Duty: Warzone in Season 4 of the game.

Season 3 launched in early April, and based on the Battle Pass timer in-game, Season 4 should begin around the first week of June.

In an interview with GamerGen, Infinity Ward has teased some of the content that is coming to Warzone in Season 4.

Kurosaki, Infinity Ward’s Narrative Director, says the story line will continue with Season 4 of the game and says new people will be dropping in to join the fight in Verdansk. He also says that some mysterious and clues will be unlocked in Season 4 for players to explore and learn more.

Players have already discovered that there is a whole other part of Verdansk they haven’t seen yet. They have found clues, and that there is more than meets the eye in this city. Season 4 will unravel some of those mysteries and unlock some of them for our players. As the battle in Verdansk wages on, things will grow more desperate. There are going to be more and more fighters sent in to turn the tide and we’re very excited to get our players to see and join alongside these new great warriors as they continue to fight.

Amos Hodge, Raven’s Creative Director, says that there will be new loot for players to find in Warzone in Season 4 of the game, including new Field Upgrades. He also says that some loot will be added that extends beyond what’s available in loadouts. And there will be new modes.

On the gameplay stuff I can tell you that there will definitely be new modes, we’re constantly working on modes. So new modes we’ll be releasing, and we’re working on new content – new items in game that you can put in your loadout. There will be new items to find in BR and Plunder that aren’t in your loadout to add gameplay and a little looting. There will be new field upgrades for example. So we’re working on new Field Upgrades, new modes, new loot in general that you can get in your loadout to add some new spice to the game.

In addition, as part of the same interview, Infinity Ward’s Kurosaki has clarified his comments on Warzone having Fortnite-like events. He says that Fortnite and Modern Warfare are ‘very different’ and going for different approaches.

I wouldn’t say they’re Fortnite-like events, because Fortnite is such a different type of a game than Modern Warfare. With Fortnite you know that the world is ever evolving and ever changing so much you kind of don’t want to go away from it or you might miss something. It’s the same thing with Warzone.

He says that a narrative story has been in the works since before Modern Warfare came out and that they are ensuring that the overall world operates like the real world as that is how Modern Warfare is built.

In terms of story, we’ve been setting up this narrative since before Modern Warfare came out. An important point for us is that Modern Warfare exists in a world that operates not unlike the world that we live in. The same thing goes for Multiplayer, Spec Ops and Warzone. These are real factions that mimic the way the world and it’s super powers. They have allegiances, sort of rivalries… The big what if with Warzone is that those traditional allegiances have broken down, and someone is pulling the strings behind the scenes and we, as the Operators in the game, are trying to figure out what’s going on and how to solve it.

Warzone devs have long-term content plans for game

In an interview with website USGamer, Infinity Ward’s Joe Cecot and Geoff Smith, alongside Raven’s Amos Hodge, spoke about Call of Duty: Warzone and it’s success and plans for the future.

As part of the interview, US Gamer brought up to the developers again how they plan to integrate Call of Duty: Warzone, a free to play title, into the yearly premium releases and navigate those conversations.

In the interview, the developers say they want this game to last longer than the usual one year cycle and plan to support it with features and updates as long as it remains popular.

That’s the plan,” says Hodge when I ask about the hopefully-longer-than-usual lifespan for Warzone.

Infinity Ward’s Joe Cecot says in the interview that the studio plans to support this game as long as the players are there and will ‘figure out’ as they go how to weave this into the yearly releases.

“As long as it’s popular, we’re going to keep updating it,” adds Cecot. “We’re gonna keep pushing it and figuring out how it fits in the future.”

Infinity Ward’s Taylor Kurosaki, in an interview a few weeks back, said that the game will be a ‘constant’ in the Call of Duty world and ‘interconnect’ different sub-franchises together.

Guess what? Warzone is supposed to change…eventually…at some point…whenever.

A new rumor from website VGC states that Call of Duty: Warzone is set to see map changes with Season 5, which is set to launch in early August.

VGC states, from sources familiar with game’s development, that the Warzone map will see ‘significant’ changes in the Season 5 update. VGC was the first site to report accurately that Warzone would launch on March 10, when many people speculated a February launch.

Their article states that the stadium in Warzone will open-up and allow players to access inside of it. They also claim that sources state that there will be the addition of a ‘loot filled train’ that goes around the map constantly during a match.

VGC also claims that Activision plans to make updates and additions to Warzone to ‘bring it line’ with the 2020 Call of Duty game, which is set to be a new Black Ops title taking place during the Cold War era.

Since Warzone’s launch in early March, there has not been significant map changes to the map beyond the opening of bunkers. Players were hoping to see some changes with Season 4, but Season 4 only debuted new ‘intel’ missions that took players around the map to unlock and discover secrets about Verdansk.

Rumors from late last week stated that the 2020 Call of Duty game will feature Warzone as part of the game itself and debut a new map that is themed around the title’s settings and features.

Infinity Ward has confirmed independently that Warzone would be a ‘constant’ of Call of Duty going forward, but declined to say how that would happen.

Warzone™ Mastery: Verdansk Subway System (Metro)

As shown in a recent trailer, Farah and Nikolai have brought the Verdansk Subway System, known locally as the Metro, back to life in search of Al-Qatala members hiding underground.

With this transportation system fully operational at the start of Season Six, all operators in Verdansk can now use it to get around the Warzone faster than ever before between numerous points of interest. And of course, there is now a few new areas to explore, complete with Supply Boxes and loose loadout items which can get your whole squad on the right track towards victory.

This is your Warzone Mastery guide to the Verdansk Subway System:

At the start of every Warzone match, the Metro will have a number of open stations to explore. All of them have the same layout, thanks to the massive urban planning initiative Verdansk underwent when these were first constructed.

From the ground level, head down a large staircase set and hop past a set of turnstiles to reach the first landing. Here, a set of archways and a tiled wall breaks up an otherwise open space that leads to an inaccessible ticket office.

Once down at this landing, turn left or right to find a staircase down to the station’s platform, where old posters are plastered onto the walls along with a handy graphic that marks what station an operator is currently at.

The platform itself is broken up into two halves, with each side dedicated to a different direction of the subway line. Both sides have a small room, such as an employee break area or equipment closet, that can be accessed via double doors. Nearly every one of these rooms also has a near escape ladder, which leads up to a hole on the surface a few dozen meters from the main subway staircase entrance.

Whether it’s in these rooms, on the platform, or even back at the previously accessible ticket office landing area, there is the potential for items, Supply Boxes, and Contracts to populate these otherwise abandoned subway stations.

After scavenging for items, head to the main platform and hop aboard the subway to access the new fast travel system. Trains will arrive frequently at each station during their journey around the map in a clockwise or counterclockwise fashion through the following locales in order:

Each train’s interior design may not have been updated since this system was first built, but despite their “retro” appearance, they are still equipped with some state-of-the-art technology that mitigates issues involving the circle collapse and combat.

Specifically, a subway train will not move to a station that is under the effects of the circle collapse. This avoids a situation of a squad hopping aboard a subway that leads to an untimely death… unless, of course, it’s at the hands of another squad waiting at the next station.

Speaking of fighting, there is no room for roughhousing onboard the Metro. In fact, the subway will not move at all if there is any conflict on board, or between the train and the platform, so keep fighting to the platform, stairwells, and outside the station.

Top Ten Tips

In summary, here’s how you and the whole squad can master the Verdansk Subway System:

10. The Fastest Way to Get Around Verdansk. At its core, this is a smart fast travel system that can be used by any and all operators. While not a massive new zone in terms of surface area, expect its impact on getting around Verdansk to be game-changing.

9. The One True Safe Area. Remember that the subway will not move if there is fighting aboard a subway train or between it and the platform. Use this limited downtime to reload weapons, swap items around the squad, or just take a breather before getting out at the next stop.

8. Mind the Gap. This almost goes without saying, but don’t try to step onto the subway tracks. Not only is it a recipe for death, but your squadmates will most likely be unable to pick up any belongings after your misadventure.

7. Leave No Corner Unchecked. Much like other interior spaces around Verdansk, there are plenty of item gathering opportunities within each subway station. Especially in those small rooms on the platform level, there is now more to these metro stations than what appeared on the surface.

6. In Case of Emergency, Use Ladder. The escape ladders found at every Metro station can either be used as an alternative entrance to the fast travel system, or as an emergency exit in case fighting underground becomes unbearable. However, because these ladders lead to holes on the surface, be extra careful around the subway stations, or you might step over an escape hatch and take an embarrassing trip to the Gulag.

5. Detours and Flank Routes. These tunnels were key for AQ forces moving around Verdansk quickly without much of a trace. Using the subway system as they did could be a great strategy, as riding the subway for a few stops and popping back up across the map may help your squad shake an enemy team in pursuit or catch a high value target.

4. The Express Track for Contract Completion. Along with avoiding Bounties, the fast travel system could help with a few contracts that may require travel around the map. For example, a Supply Run could lead to a Store mere steps from a station two stops down the line, while Most Wanted Operators can duck into the system to avoid hotly contested zones.

3. Fire in the Hole! Whether it’s down an escape hatch or a set of winding staircases, bounceable equipment pieces, such as Frag and Snapshot Grenades, can be great tools for smoking out enemy players that lurk below the surface. Just make sure that equipment piece will bounce at the right angle down towards the enemy, lest you and the squad be blinded by a mis-thrown Flash Grenade.

2. A Haven for CQB Play. Although larger areas, such as the first-floor landing and station platforms, open up for more mid-range weaponry, SMGs and shotguns can be extremely effective within every subway station. Especially within the stairwells, an operator who isn’t afraid to be up close and personal may find the most success in surviving the Metro.

1. Ambush. Ambush. Ambush. Because of the potential impact of this fast travel system, don’t let your enemies use it for free. If you suspect an enemy squad is underground, try setting up equipment traps in stairwells or surrounding the entrance to catch them as they exit.
