So what does it mean when the Element damage is in parenthesis and grayed out? I’m 194 hours of playtime and I still don’t know what that is all about.

So that means its locked and you will need a free element charm or decorations to unlock it. There are 3 tiers to it each tier unlocking 33% of the potential power. These are usually locked on weapons that have a higher physical damage making you need to sacrifice slots to get the extra power that’s locked

Aaahh that makes sense. I’ve got a greatsword with it on there.

Ya I think most people just dont worry about the element and focus on increasing the raw damage

I’d be interested in trying to finish the main story up if anyone is interested in helping. May buy DLC if I get hooked.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is giving away free in-game jewels for a week

Playing Monster Hunter World: Iceborne for the next week will reward you with free decorations. Capcom is preparing Iceborne players for the arrival of Alatreon by giving away free in-game jewels — including the Attack Jewel + — as a login bonus. This giveaway starts today, and ends on July 10th, with each jewel being available for at least a day. Today’s free decoration is the Expert Jewel, which you can get until July 4th 4:59pm PDT / July 5th 0:59am BST.

Next, it will be the Blaze Jewel + available from July 4th 00:00 UTC until July 5th 23:59 UTC. The schedule carries on with the Stream Jewel + available from July 5th 00:00 UTC until July 6th 23:59 UTC, the Frost Jewel + from July 6th 00:00 UTC to July 7th 23:59 UTC, the Bolt Jewel + from July 7th 00:00 UTC to July 8th 23:59 UTC, the Dragon Jewel + from July 8th 00:00 UTC to July 9th 23:59 UTC, and the Attack Jewel + from July 9th 00:00 UTC to July 10th 23:59 UTC.

As Moat Carp points out, these are some high-level jewels that are tricky to get even if you’re a long way through the game. Judging by the response to Capcom’s tweet, Iceborne fans seem to be nervous about how tough Alatreon is going to be, if Capcom is handing out all these gems before the dragon arrives. The chance to get the last free decoration (the Attack Jewel +) expires on July 10th, and each previous gem will only be available for around a day, so make sure to check in and get them all.

Alatreon joins the game next week on July 9th as part of the fourth free title update. There’s more monsters and updates planned for after Alatreon’s arrival, and the teaser for Alatreon briefly showed one of these upcoming monsters, which fans believe to be a Frozen variant of Barioth. Capcom will today share a dev diary about the update, with a gameplay reveal and the promise that Alatreon is “just the tip of the iceberg”.
