This is pretty funny video. Even calls out the virtual boy system, (which i almost bought)
For E3 2015, Nintendo is holding its first Nintendo World Championships event in 25 years.
The publisher revealed the news in a comedic video in which Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aimé (jokingly) quits his job to begin training for the Nintendo-game competition. His regimen includes GameCube lifts and strenuous Power Pad calisthenics.
At special Best Buy locations around the US, fans will be able to compete for a spot in the tournament finals, which will be set in LA to kick of E3 on Sunday, June 14. Winners from each region will face off in a multi-round Nintendo game competition. The finals will be streamed online. Specific Best Buy locations haven’t yet been announced, but we’ll update you when they are.
Nintendo is also once again opting to share its big news via a Nintendo Digital Event rather than a press conference. The video begins at 9am PT on June 16. Check out IGN at that time for all the biggest Nintendo news of the day. It will be followed by an extended Nintendo Treehouse Live at E3 stream, which will feature “even more games and guest appearances by developers.” Lastly, on two days during E3, Mario Maker will be set up for play at select Best Buy locations. Events will be held from 4-9pm local time on Wednesday, June 17, and noon-5pm local time on Saturday, June 20.
Too Funny. I actually did one of these with my brother when were kids in NY. Got my Dad to take us. No Mp back then so it was how fast can you complete a level vs another guy in an elimination round type thing.
Fred Savage wants to attend the Nintendo World Championships, echoing the plot of his 1989 film The Wizard.
“Ok, so where are these Ninetendo championships being held and how the hell do I get there??” Savage tweeted, eliciting hilarious responses from fans telling him to get to “California.”
In The Wizard, Savage played one of three children who travel to California to participate in a Nintendo video game tournament. Yesterday, Nintendo announced that as part of its E3 plans, it would be holding its first Nintendo World Championship event in 25 years - creating a great opportunity for Savage and his The Wizard co-stars, such as Christian Slater and Jenny Lewis, to get together to re-live the film’s plot. The Wizard featured so many references to Nintendo games and accessories that some called it a feature-length commercial- so it might not actually be that surprising for Savage and his friends to turn up at the Nintendo World Championship 2015. We’ll keep you posted on any developments.
