Prince of Persia is offically coming back — in line with the rumours and leaks, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is coming to Xbox One in January 2021. To prove it, here’s the first trailer.
The redone version of the classic action-platformer looks a little better than the banner pics that leaked earlier today, but it still comes across as somewhere between a remaster and a proper remake in terms of visual quality. It’s certainly nowhere close to the likes of Capcom’s stunning returns to Resident Evil or the recent Tony Hawk remake, but it’s mainly the character models that let it down — environments look pretty lovely.
The Prince’s original voice actor, Yuri Lowenthal, returns to reprise his role after almost 20 years, and his voice still sounds great. The team promises that it will be keeping equally faithful to the original in many other aspects, although we see a few glimpses that make it look like combat might have been given an overhaul. That’s fine with us, since that’s one aspect of the game that really hasn’t aged particularly well.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is coming to Xbox One, PC, and PS4 on January 21st, 2021.
