If you can get them to pony up the $40 each for a Full license then you can host all of them with less upfront costs. Still have to buy the books though. You can get some basic rulesets for free and homebrew. Makes it more affordable but you will be spending more time inputting all the info.
For $90 you can get the DMG, PHB, and MM or for $179 you can get the 7 “Essential” DnD5e books. Steam has the same price, watch for the Summer Sale coming up and you could save more.
I will probably start with some one shots to see who is interested. Could run those maybe twice a weekend to better mesh with schedules. Then if there is enough interest I will start purchasing modules. Found some nice third party automation add-ons, those are a little more money but simplifies combat so will be purchasing those as well.
I bought that PF humble bundle. Pathfinder 2.0 should be out soon (April/May). From what I have gathered it runs more like Starfinder. So I have started reading starfinder and the PF 2.0 playtest guide. I also backed a TTRPG called Manifest on Kickstarter recently. It’s a Western/SciFi hybrid game built on a new Dice system which uses all D20s (called the Fistfuls of D20s System). My problem is time as i work a rotating schedule. I could do one shots but not a steady campaign
I also have the PDF guides for D&D 5E, Call of Cthulu, and Starfinder all free courtesy of https://thetrove.net
Careful with that link. There’s some legit free stuff available on it but I’m guessing that greater than 99% is straight piracy.
True…I live in the gray…on a budget that doesnt include $50 books lol
As long as I dont try to use them during an official Pathfinder Society or D&D game I’m OK. It’s for informational purposes only
That’s my thoughts on PornHUB.
Further research has suggested we could get started for less upfront costs. For $185 I could upgrade to the Ultimate license, get the PHB and DMG, and The Lost Mine of Phandelver level 1 adventure. Or if everyone buys or gets a monthly subscription to a Full license then it would only cost me $75 by not needing to upgrade to the Ultimate license. 4-5 players per run.
Has anyone looked into Roll20 instead of fantasy grounds?
Costs are right up there and a bunch of reviews say Fantasy Grounds is better. Comparable in needs of purchase level as well.
Was just wondering how the 2 compared. Well hopefully the summer sale will put some of it at a discount
Looks like they are doing a Kickstarter on May 1st for Fantasy Grounds Unity. I assume its built on Unity (I dont know I dont speak nerd lolz). How does it differ from what they offer now? Should we wait for that instead?
Edit: I’ll be watching the rerun of their twitch stream from tonight where they explain it lolz
Being built in Unity will give it 64 bit. That means it will run smoother and better. It will also possibly have automatic line of sight so when you use your character to look around it will flesh out the map on the fly. They will allow an upgrade to the Unity version from the current at a discount. I may just pull the trigger on the Ultimate to host so players won’t have to buy anything unless they want to. They usually go on sale in the summer sale.
Still learning the software. Just did a 4 hour one shot earlier today and had a lot of fun. Learned some stuff. Like a program called Syrinscape that adds a lot of ambiance.
I pulled the trigger on the Ultimate license of Fantasy Grounds. I also bought the DMG, PHB, and a beginners module. I still want to purchase some Coding Effect packages from Rob2e that make the game run smoother. I will try to get in a DM101 class asap.
The campaign for Fantasy Grounds Unity is now live.
I backed it. Looking forward to the beta!
I just got the standard license for Classic and backed standard on Unity
Nice! I can run some sessions if we can get two more players. D&D5e or Savage Worlds. Also reading up on Lancer RPG. It doesn’t have a ruleset built in but I think we can muck through it on Discord using Fantasy Grounds as the dice roller.
