Star Wars: Squadrons

Star Wars: Squadrons won’t receive any post-launch DLC

EA has “no plans” to bring any DLC to Star Wars: Squadrons, with the game’s creative director emphasising that Motive Studios isn’t treating Squadrons as a live service game.

Speaking with Upload VR, Ian Frazier, creative director for Star Wars: Squadrons, said "Never say never, so to speak, but as far as our philosophy goes we’re not trying to treat the game as a live service.

“We don’t want to say, ‘It’s almost done!’ and then dribble out more of it over time, which to be honest is how most games work these days. So we’ve tried to treat it in kind of an old-school approach saying, ‘You’ve paid the $40, this is the game, and it’s entirely self-contained. We’re not planning to add more content, this is the game, and we hope you understand the value proposition.’”

Some players were hoping for a map on a planet’s surface to add a bit of variety to the gameplay, but Frazier says that’s not going to happen. “From pretty early on, we wanted to be a space combat game, emphasis on space. So even though we do go into the outer atmosphere of Yavin Prime, we never go anywhere truly terrestrial because we wanted to separate the game in that flavour from something like Battlefront, which we already have.”

Star Wars: Squadrons was well-recieved by critics, but many noted a lack of game modes and a small number of maps, so seeing that EA has no plans to bring any DLC to the game is a bit of a shame.
