Xbox One February Update

After adding hundreds of features big and small to the Xbox One in 2014,
Microsoft has returned with the first update of 2015. While there isn’t
anything earth-shattering, there are certainly a few neat features to
kick off the new year. In this video, Major Nelson and Richard Irving
break down just exactly what shall be coming in February.

For those that prefer the written word to the spoken one, here’s what you’ll be seeing in the next update.

First up, and undoubtedly the biggest part of the update for most, game hubs.
Game hubs
– New in preview this month, game hubs are the go-to centers for all
sorts of interesting content around your favorite games. Every Xbox One
game will have a game hub where you can see which of your friends are
playing the game, compete with your friends in game leaderboards, dive
into the coolest game clips and game broadcasts, and follow the game’s
VIPs and top players.

To get to the game hub for your favorite game, find a game in your pins, recently played list, or My games and apps, then press the Menu button and select View game hub. You can also search for any game in the Xbox Store and click on the game hub tile from the game’s store page.Next up is a small improvement to the custom background feature added in the last big update back in November.
Custom backgrounds and tile transparency
– We listened to your feedback and added additional tile transparency
to the Home tiles to make your background images more visible. As a
reminder, to set a custom background, go to Settings > My Xbox > My background. Note: some items can’t be made transparent due to usage rights/restrictions for certain images. Finally, there’s a lot of updates for the TV functions in a variety of countries.
TV updates
– We’re releasing a lot of updates to the live TV experience and
features are being released to additional countries in preview this
month:

OneGuide for the Netherlands – Support for OneGuide
will continue in preview for the Netherlands and the missing channels
for the Netherlands OneGuide listings will become available over the
next few weeks.

TV trending in OneGuide – As you scan the
detailed OneGuide TV listings, you can see which shows are trending by a
“Trending on Xbox” note and associated icon. Xbox – live TV trending is
based on the number of Xbox One owners currently watching that show in
each country, pulled from anonymous data collected at a national level.
Currently, Xbox TV trending is available to all members in the U.S., UK
and Canada.

Live TV trending (new countries) – France, Germany, Brazil and Mexico will begin seeing live TV trending data in Xbox OneGuide.

Improved control of TVs, set-top boxes and audio/video receivers
– Xbox One will work even better with more devices. This month’s
preview release contains updates to the IR blasting database for new
models and addresses issues reported by our fan community.

“Trick play” with Xbox One Digital TV Tuner
– Preview members with the Xbox One Digital TV Tuner in supported
countries (UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain) will now be able to see
video frames when fast-forwarding or rewinding paused TV on your Xbox
One consoles.

Live TV streaming on Windows Phone and Android
– We are continuing the preview of live TV streaming on Windows Phone
and Android devices for Xbox One Digital TV Tuner owners in the UK,
France, Germany, Italy and Spain. From today, those of you in the
Preview Program should start receiving the update, with everyone else
following suit at some point in February.

Subtle update but I like that they are using user feedback to improve the XboxOne over all experience.

I’m also glad they are using user feedback as well.

The tile transparency makes the background image more worthwhile as well.

Anybody do the update and have game crashes tonight? I have an external drive with some games on it but both GTA and Destiny would boot me to the dash after a while.

I didn’t see any problems in Hardline last night, but that’s all I’ve played since the update. I’ll play some GTA later today and let you know if I get the same issues.

I am guessing something weird is going on with me maybe it is something with the external drive. @LalaCalamari seems to played GTA last night (unless maybe he didn’t do the update) and others played Destiny. I tweeted Xbox support but probably will try a hard reboot.

I’m not sure if I got the update or not. I’m assuming so.

I had no issues playing GTA. I don’t have an external drive yet. I will need one soon as my stock drive is full. I still need to run the updates on my controller.

I have only been playing COD and AC:Black flag and have had no issues yet.

I have my games on an external drive. I did do a hard reboot last night before playing, because for some reason, when I get a new update, it won’t let me keep my Bitstream Out setting under audio properties. It gives me an error, and limits me to stereo output until I do a hard reboot. It’s done that for the past 3 months of updates.

FYI, there is a controller update. It makes the controller connect very fast. Make sure to go to Settings, then Accessories. Connect your controller up with a USB cable and run the update.

I did all the updates and still was crashing out today. I noticed that my router was showing a strict nat even though I was open. Reset up my wireless and it now shows as open so will be testing that tomorrow to see if that was the problem. Was at a beer tasting tonight so priorities…

Looks like it was Xbox confused with my router as I finally did not get kicked out of the beginning of GTA. Only had to play it about 6 times to get there.

Edit Scratch that just happened to me again. Might uninstall and reinstall.

Ok so had to talk to Xbox support and all signs point to my system update having some type of corruption in it. So anything not on my internal drive right now can’t be played.

Going to have to take some time this weekend to do this for a likely fix: http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/system/offline-system-update-diagnostic-tool

We just figured you pulled a JH on clan night.

Yeah I have GTA on my internal but was just in a pissy mood knowing I am going to have to deal with this headache at some point.

I can move files back and forth between drives though it takes a while with the external basically turning off and on.
