I know we have some gear heads here. I recently purchased a 2006 Ford Ranger XLT 3.0 V6 with 36,000 miles. On Monday it threw a check engine line for Cylinder #5 misfiring. So I purchased 6 new plugs and wire set and replaced them all on Tuesday. #5 was really stuck in and came out in pieces so yay problem solved. Wednesday light turned off after about 60 miles. Last night the light came back on. I have not had the code pulled yet but I’m assuming it is the same problem. One thing that really concerns me is the fire order on the ignition coil. The current one is labeled but when I was Googling there have been plenty of results saying the order is off by 180 degrees. And when I checked a few videos and such they do not match what order I currently have. I have not been able to find anything that is exact 100% proof of what that factory order was. Wondering if anyone can assist with this?
Often times the firing order is cast in to the intake manifold.
Once you have that, just remember that “Henry Ford was left handed” and your number 1 cylinder is front left as you’re looking at the engine bay, not from the drivers seat.
Not sure if this is helpful or not.

I’ve found matching information to Lala’s reply for the coil order.
Write down what it is now and try what’s in that pic. You have nothing to lose at this point.
I saw that same pic, but the one I currently have installed is factory labeled and is flipped around 180*. It has 123 on passenger, and 456 on drivers side.
Apparently that’s an issue even with the service manuals. Which is weird.
Thanks! I hooked up my truck in this fashion and it finally got rid of my misfire. Why would the haynes manual show the wires set up as if the coil was turned 180 degrees around? Has anyone else noticed this discrepancy?
I had the same issue with a chilton’s manual. A ranger site also had the same incorrect diagram
Yeah that’s what I’ve been reading. That’s why I was hoping to find a Ford Factory document or something.
So I was tripping thinking mine was backwards, it matches… However I did find the #5 plug loose on the ignition coil, so hopefully that was it. Still have a ticking nosie in the engine when I get above 60mph.
Often the coil pack its self is bad and will have one cylinder misfiring… Happened on wife’s subaru… Replace whole pack and was good to go
Or I can sell to CarMax for $7500. $2500 profit!
