A Bunch of Hogwarts Legacy Stuff for Noobs

How does Hogwarts Legacy character customization work?

Hogwarts Legacy players will get a chance to customize their character at the very start of their journey. Your customization choices at the start of the game are incredibly important seeing as some will stick with you for the entirety of your journey.

While changing appearance and certain aspects of your character throughout your playthrough is possible, there are certain things you won’t be able to change.

You will not be able to change your face shape, skin color, voice tone, pitch, and dormitory assignment. When selecting the aforementioned features, you’re going to want to double-check your choices. These aspects are permanent and your choices from the character creation screen will remain.

When it comes to simple adjustments, like a change of hairstyle or color, you can do so at any time throughout your Hogwarts Legacy experience.

Hogwarts Legacy customization even allows you to change the shape of your character’s eyebrows.

Hogsmeade will be the most popular and the earliest example of this in Hogwarts Legacy. You’ll find Madam Snelling’s Tress Emporium in Hogsmeade where you can speak to Calliope Snelling to change your appearance.

Changing your hairstyle, hair color, or any of the other options mentioned above will set cost 20 Galleons.

How long to beat Hogwarts Legacy?

According to an art book that leaked ahead of release as well as reviews for the game during launch week, Hogwarts Legacy’s main campaign will take around 30 to 35 hours to complete. That being said, those who want to tick off every side mission and collectible will have to put in closer to 70 hours to achieve a completionist run.

While developer Portkey Games haven’t shared any official details themselves, the leaked document and reviews from major publications have been clear that these are the expected lengths depending on play style.

Hogwarts Legacy is expected to have plenty of optional objectives, such as House-specific quests, secret dungeons to complete, and bosses to fight.

The art book also mentioned puzzles left by the legendary wizard, Merlin, to solve around the Hogwarts campus and surrounding countryside. Players can look forward to around 100 to hunt down, so these alone could really increase your mileage in the game.

There are plenty of spells to master in Hogwarts Legacy.

The length of Hogwarts Legacy will also vary depending on the difficulty you choose at the start and how quickly you master its deep combat system. Those looking to breeze through on the easiest setting will likely reach the finish line much sooner than anyone looking to challenge themselves on the hardest difficulty.

Ultimately, the number of hours you get from Hogwarts Legacy will depend on how you choose to play. If you’re here for the story then you could easily be in and out after a few days of gameplay, whereas completionists will have to invest much more time to reach 100%.

Rest assured, however, that no matter how you tackle Hogwarts Legacy, there’s plenty to discover for any aspiring wizard or witch.

What are the Unforgivable Curses in Hogwarts Legacy?

There are three Unforgivable Curses in Hogwarts Legacy; Crucio, Imperio, and Avada Kedavra. As fans will know, each one has a devasting effect on those unlucky enough to be on the receiving end, and Hogwarts students are usually warned against using them under any circumstances.

You can see each Curse and its effect below:

  • Crucio (Cruciatus Curse) – Known as the ‘Torture Curse,’ it inflicts excruciating pain on any living thing.
  • Imperio (Imperius Curse) – Places the enemy under your control.
  • Avada Kedavra (Killing Curse) – Instantly causes a quick and painless death

Once unlocked, these lethal spells can become incredibly powerful tools in your magical arsenal, so let’s go over how to learn each one.

The Unforgivable Curses are devastating spells for those who dare to use them.

How to get Crucio in Hogwarts Legacy

Each Unforgivable Curse is earned through Sebastian Swallow’s chain of side missions, and the Crucio Curse can be unlocked by completing the ‘In the Shadow of the Study’ quest. If you’ve completed a few of Sebasatian’s objectives and reached level 16, the quest will become available and can be done at any time.

This particular side activity takes you into Slytherin’s Scriptorium, where you will be met by a door that can only be opened with an Unforgivable Curse. Here, you will be taught how to cast the spell and Crucio will be permanently added to your skills.

How to get Imperio in Hogwarts Legacy

In order to learn the Imperio Curse, players must tick off the ‘In the Shadow of Time’ mission, which takes place further into Sebastian’s quest line. Simply keep progressing through the main story, and you will receive an owl to grant you the quest.

This time, the Slytherin student has you searching an eerie catacomb for an old relic before being confronted by Omnis Gaunt. During this exchange you will learn Imperio, meaning you’ll have mastered two out of the three Unforgivable Curses in Hogwarts Legacy.

There’s a whole host of different spells to learn in Hogwarts Legacy.

How to get Avada Kedavra in Hogwarts Legacy

The final Unforgivable Curse, Avada Kedavra, is awarded for completing the ‘In the Shadow of the Relic‘ quest. Players can only access this mission once they have hit level 27 by completing parts of the campaign or grinding side objectives.

In the quest, Sebastian will perform the Killing Curse right in front of you and offer to teach it. Simply follow his lead and you’ll become powerful enough to rival Voldemort himself.

How to fix blue characters in Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts Legacy developer Avalanche Software are yet to comment on the blue characters bug, but players have found that turning off High Contrast Gameplay seems to solve the issue.

This is one of Hogwarts Legacy‘s many accessibility features, designed to help players distinguish each character more clearly from the background. However, an issue with the feature appears to be causing the blue filter to cover all students, teachers, and enemies.

If you’re able to continue playing Hogwrats Legacy without High Contrast mode enabled, we recommend turning it off via the in-game menus. Check out how below:

  1. Open up the menu in Hogwarts Legacy.
  2. Scroll over to the ‘Settings’ tab.
  3. Head down to the ‘Accessibility Options’ section.
  4. Select ‘High Contrast Gameplay’ to turn it off.

If this doesn’t resolve the blue characters bug right away, you may have to restart Hogwarts Legacy for the change to take effect. Players have reported that this has made their characters return to normal, but it’s worth keeping in mind this isn’t a guaranteed fix from the developers.

If the glitch persists then, unfortunately, the best thing to do is wait for Avalanche Software to issue a patch. The devs will no doubt be working on a number of bug fixes in the days after launch, so it shouldn’t take too long for the issue to be resolved.

In order to change a piece of gear’s stats in Hogwarts Legacy, follow these steps:

  1. First off, you’ll need to unlock the Room of Requirement.
  2. After this, you will need the ‘Loom‘, which is unlocked after completing the 28th main quest in the game titled “The Elf, the Nab-Sack, and the Loom.”
  3. Players can then use the Loom to change the stats of particular pieces of gear, and add favored Traits so that it is tuned to their preference.

Players can access the Hogwarts Legacy Room of Requirement during their journey. The Room of Requirement provides a safe space of your own so here’s how to access it.

The Room of Requirement is a personal area that Hogwarts Legacy players can customize as they see fit. Not only can players decorate the Room of Requirement to their liking, but they can use it to continue their studies at Hogwarts.

However, the Room of Requirement is not available to Hogwarts Legacy players from the get-go. Much like the ability to fly on a broom, the Room of Requirement is a feature that players must unlock by playing their way through the game.

Here’s what you need to know about unlocking the Room of Requirement in Hogwarts Legacy.

How to unlock the Room of Requirement in Hogwarts Legacy

To unlock the Room of Requirement in Hogwarts Legacy, you’ll have to complete The Room of Requirement quest. This specific quest will appear in Hogwarts Legacy about a couple of hours into the game.

The Room of Requirement quest will appear only after you’ve finished the Tomes and Tribulations quest. Keep an eye out for the Tomes and Tribulations quest, and you’ll know if you’re on the right track.

The Room of Requirement is a customizable area in Hogwarts Legacy and players can do things like opt for their own selection of furniture or select their preferred floor design.

After completing the Room of Requirement quest and unlocking the area, you won’t have to travel to the physical entrance every time you want to visit.

Instead, the Room of Requirement will appear on the Hogwarts Legacy map as a sun icon. Select the icon to teleport directly into the Room of Requirement.
