A Few Things from the Game Awards

World War Z

The Game Awards hit the web tonight and alongside their year-end accolades, the show once again highlighted several new games to look forward to in the coming months and years (or decades in the case of Death Stranding). The first reveal trailer to kick off the pre-show was for a game based on the zombie universe created by Max Brooks, World War Z.

You can check out the reveal below, which features the memorable sprinting zombie pyramids as seen in the movie adaptation a few years ago.

World War Z is being developed by Saber Interactive (NBA Playgrounds, TimeShift) and is said to be “coming soon.”

Soul Caliber

Bandai Namco got in on the fun with the announcement of a new instalment in the long-running SoulCalibur series, appropriately titled SOULCALIBUR VI.

Little is known about the upcoming fighting game aside from the announcement trailer, but that trailer does feature a couple of familiar faces in Sophitia and Mitsurigi. Check out the reveal trailer below.

SOULCALIBUR VI is currently scheduled to come out in 2018.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds

PC players have been having all the fun so far, but in just four days Xbox One players will get to try their hand at PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. If you follow the game at all, you know developer Bluehole has been teasing upcoming features for PUBG like vaulting and a new desert map. At last night’s presentation of The Game Awards, the audience was treated to the first trailer for Miramar, the desert map’s official name.

The developer has also released an in-depth look at how PUBG’s vehicle sounds are recorded:

Lastly, we have the Xbox One launch trailer:

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds launches into Xbox One’s Game Preview program on December 12th. If you’re wanting to get more intel on the desert map between now and then, PC players are trying it out on PUBG’s test servers right now, so there should be plenty of streams and videos coming soon.

Metro Exodus

Last night’s presentation of The Game Awards brought the reveal of a new trailer and release window for the upcoming game.

The trailer focuses on hope and is called “Aurora.” The video description reads:

The desperate survivors who cling to existence beneath the ruins of post-apocalyptic Moscow have long given up hope of life returning to the surface…

…except for one.

Metro Exodus is expected to release in autumn 2018.

Fortnite Battle Royale

Sometimes, in Fortnite: Battle Royale, you want to play a solo match. Other times, the company of one other friend is just the right amount. Of course, there is always Squads mode for when you’re playing with a few other people. If none of the above does it for you, how about having 49 other players on your team? In Fortnite’s new, limited-time 50v50 mode, that’s just what you’ll get.

The mode does have a few changes to accommodate the huge amount of players on each team (thankfully, you won’t have to worry about friendly fire or hearing voice chat from 49 other people at the same time):

  • Friendly Fire Off (But you will still see hit indicators.)
  • Limited visibility of non-squad teammates.
  • Squad VoIP only.
  • You can revive ANY friendly teammates.
  • You won’t see non-squad teammates until you land.

50v50 is live now until December 17th. Developer Epic Games has also alluded to future “additional event playlists and limited-time modes to spice up that Battle Royale action in unique and different ways.”
