Battlefield 2042 Updates, Leaks and Rumours

Due to poor sales for Battlefield 5, EA may be ditching a number for the next entry in the long-running franchise. There are rumors that they are working on a remaster of Battlefield 3 as well.

Compared to most of the games in the Battlefield franchise, Battlefield 5 grossly underperformed selling just over 7 million copies. It fared even worse when the numbers stacked up to the series’ previous entry Battlefield 1 – which sold well over 15 million copies.

According to reliable sources, it seems like EA may be considering releasing the newest game without a number at the end of it.

There’s also a possibility that EA has some of their team working on one of the most popular Battlefield games too in Battlefield 3.

Battlefield 6 rebranding

The leak comes from Viral Junkie CEO – Tom Henderson. He has been right on many occasions using his sources within the industry to deliver accurate leaks.

In his latest YouTube video, he discusses several rumored aspects of the new Battlefield game. He also discusses how the game may be getting a title change.

Henderson says: “I believe it’s either going to be called Battlefield 6, or simply Battlefield.”

Reasons for this are that Call of Duty has recently gone down this road with 2019’s Modern Warfare reboot. He also points out that he doesn’t believe Bad Company 3 will be the name of this game either.

The thinking behind ditching the “6” in favor of just Battlefield is the general feeling that it would be a continuation of the poorly-received Battlefield 5. Meaning EA wants this to feel new and distant from the previous entry in the series.

BF3 remaster?

7 months ago a YouTuber by the name of Daqarie posted a video showing apparent footage or information about a Battlefield 3 remaster.

Daqarie has previously leaked BF1 and BF5 information that turned out to be accurate. But the BF3 remaster video on their YouTube channel has since been removed. It’s unclear if this was their own choice or because they were asked to take it down.

Henderson says that the YouTuber got their information from a QA Tester at EA, who no longer works there. So at this juncture, it’s a bit hard to be invested in the prospect of a remaster.

He also goes on to say that it makes no sense to do a remaster. Henderson explains: “It splits the player base and the community and overall I think that Call of Duty releasing two titles at the same time, with a remaster, made sense because you had Infinite Warfare, which was a futuristic title, then you had Modern Warfare which was a modern title.”

Unless the remaster is only going to be the campaign, like Modern Warfare 2 did, it would make very little sense for EA to have two online communities of similar style games running simultaneously.

As for both stories, we are primarily going off of the leaks reported by Tom Henderson so there is nothing official yet regarding Battlefield 6.

A new leak has suggested that Battlefield 6 is going to be a soft reboot and abandon the World War theme of the last two games. It will return to the present day and feature large-scale, 128-player battles on current-gen.

We’ve known for some time that Battlefield 6 is in the pipeline at EA as they look to continue the success of their long-running FPS franchise. Some details have finally emerged thanks to leaks from established sources.

It seems that Battlefield has spent enough time retreading old ground with World War 1 & 2. Instead, the series wants to fast-forward to the modern-day and create some visually stimulating conflict.

Battlefield 6 current-gen vs last-gen

It was back in 2020 that noteworthy game leaker Tom Henderson gained some insider knowledge and proclaiming that BF6 will have 128-player skirmishes.

The CEO of production company Viral Junkie had suggested the maps were being specifically designed around this exorbitantly high player count. These claims have been reassured, but now we have additional information too.

EA has been waiting before delivering anything official as they are essentially delivering a BF6 experience for our new current-gen and last-gen. The PS5 and Xbox Series X will be able to show off their awesome power by handling huge amounts of players at once.

It’s unclear whether the PS4 and Xbox One will be able to offer as impressive performance given that we’ve already seen these problems recently with Cyberpunk 2077’s different gen offerings.

Henderson has indicated that the last-gen versions may be stripped down to 64-player matches to ease the pressure on the less-developed consoles.

Battlefield 6 Battle Royale?

Now the interesting thing to note is that Battlefield 5 debuted its first kind of Battle Royale mode with “Firestorm”. It featured 64 players who sought to whittle this number down until only one person was left standing.

Tom Henderson has indicated that EA is still working on the idea of a Battle Royale mode. Given that Call of Duty made over $3 billion in 2020 with a lot of the revenue coming from the 85+ million players indulging in Warzone’s cosmetics and Battle Pass, it would make sense for EA to follow suit.

With player counts reaching as high as 128, it would surely be easy enough for Battlefield to accommodate such a mode. If it’s not released at launch, then there’s always the probability of EA adding it down the line as Modern Warfare did with Warzone.

Battlefield Reboot

Finally, after joining the FPS renaissance back in the early 2010s, Battlefield went old-school for their last two major titles. Battlefield 1 and Battlefield 5 explored the age-old period of the World Wars.

But now it seems that EA is ready to step into the future once more.

The game is set to feature a minor reboot by modernizing its inevitably intense action and deliver some current-day mayhem. There is no word yet on what the game’s campaign could have lined up, nor is there any confirmation on Battlefield 6 having one at all.

These exciting details are all unofficial of course and as such should be taken with a pinch of salt for the time being.

I believe the remaster of BF3 has already been confirmed as not in the works as this is supposed to be a whole new modern game.

They also need to leave the PS4/Xbox One behind and focus on PS5/Series X|S. Don’t let the old hardware hold it back.

New Battlefield 2021 game leaks have surfaced on Reddit which suggests the title could be one of the biggest Battlefield games ever.

According to the leak, posted on r/battlefield6, the game will in fact have a Battle Royale mode for players to experience in game.

Battlefield tested the waters with Battle Royale mode with Fireteam mode in Battlefield before, but the mode failed to gain much traction after being locked behind the game’s paywall and dwindling player base.

The leak claims that a Battle Royale mode is in fact returning for the 2021 Battlefield game, but as of now, it’s not confirmed how EA plans to distribute the mode – whether it will be free to play or included with the game.

This leak also claims that MP will support ‘up to 128 players’ in select game modes as DICE pushes the boundaries of next-gen consoles and PC. Leaker also reveals that favorite maps from older Battlefield games will return, like Wake Island, Metro, Locker.

However, the biggest and most interesting feature noted by the leaker is the new feature coming as part of the core gameplay experience. This is just a rumor and not confirmed, but if true, could become a significant part of the experience.

The game, which does not have an official title per this person, will be a “hub for all previous Battlefield titles.” Players will have the ability to “boot up servers” and play versions of old Battlefield games, like 1942, or let some players access the 1942 arsenal while others can use the Battlefield 3 weapons in game.

Here’s the description the leaker gave:

Essentially the game (no official title yet) is going to be a hub for most, if not all, previous Battlefield titles. You will be able to boot up servers playing exclusively 1942, or even have the option to play with settings so one team has access to 1942 weapons/vehicles and the other team has access to BF3 weapons/vehicles. An example given was teams fighting Panzers vs M1 Abrams. Additionally, these settings include core gameplay mechanics, such as not being able to sprint with 1942 settings and not being able to go prone with Bad Company settings. I’m not sure how this affects balancing issues.

This leak is not verified, but a moderator on r/Battlefield6 says that the user who posted this was able to show proof that the source of the leak is someone who is “close to the game” and project.

Battlefield 2021 is confirmed to launch in Holiday 2021. EA recently confirmed that they have seen the “first version” of the game’s reveal trailer. Recent leaks have suggested that EA is targeting a May reveal date for the title.

Known industry insider Tom Henderson has leaked details on the upcoming Battlefield 6, which is reportedly just going to be titled ‘BATTLEFIELD’ and will be set in the near future.

As we approach the announcement for the highly-anticipated Battlefield 6, leaks about its title, setting, and more have begun to surface. Industry insider and leaker Tom Henderson, aka LongSensation, has leaked a ton of info about Battlefield 2021’s release.

“Per sources, I can confirm that the next Battlefield installment will simply be called BATTLEFIELD and takes place around 10 years from now,” Henderson reported. “The title is set in a modern/very near future, which gives the developers a chance to be able to implement weapons and vehicles that are currently in military development today.”

The game will be similar to Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, where it’s set “10-15 years from its release date.” Henderson claims we can expect “military robots (Boston Dynamics?), drones, jets, helicopters, tanks and that sort of thing.”

“Multiplayer will feature bigger and better battles and is described as ‘Battlefield 3/4 on steroids’,” he reported. It would also keep its class system, but also include abilities similar to Call of Duty’s perks.

Henderson also dispelled a previous Reddit leak that Battlefield 6 would be a hub for all Battlefield titles. This leak claimed that Battlefield 6 would be set across multiple eras and feature fan-favorite maps such as Wake Island and Operation Locker, but Henderson emphasized that this was not true.

Battlefield 6 battle royale

Like many fans have come to expect, Henderson reported that Battlefield 6 will indeed be receiving a battle royale “at some stage.”

However, this will be “completely disconnected from the Firestorm name,” and will have its own title. There is no word on if the battle royale will be free-to-play.

Battlefield 6’s “revolutionary” campaign

Battlefield’s campaign has always been a draw for fans, and Henderson’s sources report that “the game will feature a revolutionary campaign compared to other installments.”

Per Henderson’s sources, “The campaign will focus on you and your specialist unit, where you’ll be able to choose which superpower you fight for. In BATTLEFIELD, there isn’t necessarily “Axis and Allies” as you will be able to choose your own path. Both the USA and Russia, who are the games only standing superpowers, will offer to “recruit” your specialist team and their skills throughout the campaign, which will be a valuable asset to both sides. It would also appear like this year’s campaign is a co-op experience.”

According to Henderson, the trailer is set to drop “around May” and will be a cinematic similar to Battlefield V’s, rather than a gameplay showcase.

Battlefield 6 will potentially be titled Battlefield, set in the year 2031, contain a co-op campaign, and feature military equipment currently being developed.

The leak comes via Battlefield insider Tom Henderson’s — who is known to be a reliable source for Battlefield leaks — weekly newsletter. He states that sources close to the project have confirmed that the next title in the series will simply be titled Battlefield, and not be a hub for all Battlefield titles as has recently been rumoured. The game will potentially take place in 2031 and will use equipment that is currently under development, such as drones, military robots, and vehicles.

The campaign is said to be a co-op experience, focusing on a specialist unit and enabling you to choose which superpower you want to work for. You will apparently be able to choose who your team works with — the USA or Russia — as both superpowers will attempt to recruit you. Multiplayer will likely again feature large scale battles, quoted to be “Battlefield 3 & Battlefield 4 on steroids.” A Battle Royale mode looks like it may once again make a reappearance, though, due to the unfortunate demise of Firestorm in Battlefield V it will be renamed. Multiplayer is said to return with the four-class system that has been seen throughout the series, except each class will now offer different abilities, such as silent footsteps and longer sprint times.

A reveal is expected to be released around May. Insiders are saying that no gameplay footage will be shown, with the reveal expected to be much more like the beginning of the Battlefield V trailer. We will let you know as soon as we have any official information related to the next title, and if the rumours are correct it shouldn’t be too much longer.

Rumor: Battlefield 6 could launch on Xbox Game Pass

Rumors that a Triple-A first-person shooter game is highly likely to launch on Xbox Game Pass in Fall have led to speculation that this is Battlefield 6.

The Battlefield 6 rumor mill has been continuously turning, with details of the game supposedly being leaked. The content and settings of the game are still unconfirmed, but we know for definite that Battlefield’s 2021 title will launch in the Holiday season.

Talking on The XboxEra Podcast, Shpeshal Ed revealed a rumor that, “There is a third party, Triple-A, first-person shooter that is very highly likely to be launching in Game Pass this fall.”

Also talking on the podcast, Jon Clarke, the co-founder and Editor in Chief of XboxEra, explains that when you say “triple-A, third party, first-person shooter,” there are two franchises releasing games in 2021 that come to mind: Call of Duty and Battlefield.

It’s highly unlikely that Call of Duty 2021 will launch as part of Xbox Games Pass, as Activision already have an exclusivity deal with PlayStation. Therefore, Battlefield 6 is the most likely candidate.

“My other bet would be Battlefield 6 because the EA Play relationship already exists,” Clarke explained. “And I’m sure Microsoft are sharing lots and lots of lovely numbers on what it does for a player base when you’ve got 20 million people immediately available to play your game.”

Topic begins at 1:18:55

EA Play, EA’s subscription service, has now joined Game Pass, offering almost the entire backlog of Battlefield games to Game Pass owners, as well as free trials for the latest titles. This deal makes it very possible that Battlefield 6 will be available on the Game Pass.

Shpeshal Ed rebutted saying that Back4Blood is also releasing in Fall, but those on the podcast weren’t sure it would qualify as a Triple-A game. That leaves only Battlefield 6.

With Xbox acquiring Bethesda and having some of their games launch exclusively on the Xbox and PC, it’s clear that Microsoft is making moves to acquire the biggest franchises for Game Pass.

We reiterate that this is only a rumor for now, and all signs point towards Battlefield 6 being on Game Pass, but whether it’s a launch title remains to be seen.

Prominent leaker and industry insider Tom Henderson has leaked a ton of new information surrounding Battlefield 2021, including the dynamic map system and its SBMM.

Battlefield 2021’s reveal is expected soon, and more and more information is being leaked about the latest title. We’ve heard that the ‘crash landing’ feature cut from Battlefield V may return, the game might launch on Xbox Game Pass, and might not feature a campaign.

The majority of these leaks have come from industry insider Tom Henderson, aka LongSensation. In a live stream on April 29, Henderson encouraged viewers to ask him questions relating to Battlefield 6 and answered their burning questions to the best of his knowledge.

Here is some of the most exciting and interesting leaked information from Tom Henderson’s live stream. As a note, no official channels have confirmed this information , so it’s possible it could change ahead of the game’s launch.

Battlefield 6’s reveal trailer

Although Tom Henderson has gone into great detail around Battlefield’s reveal, he said that the trailer he has seen might not be the reveal trailer that’s expected soon.

He described how the trailer’s graphics “look like a movie,” and that Battlefield 6 might be the best-looking game ever.

He believes the trailer does a good job of revealing the game, where we’ll see “the setting, the soldiers, the good graphics, the feature of the game, vehicles, guns, etc.” But, he warns that it might leave more questions than answers, such as how the storm featured in the trailer will work in-game.

Also, rather than something like Battlefield 1’s Seven Nation Army remix, the trailer Henderson reports he has seen will have its own music, moving into Battlefield 2021’s own theme at the end of the trailer.

Battlefield 6’s Levolution

Levolution was introduced in Battlefield 4, where large-scale events would occur midway through the game, changing the map. Henderson believes that Levolution will return in Battlefield 2021, but it won’t be a “gimmick,” and will be “more like a part of the core game.”

The dynamic weather system which has been leaked is believed to be a part of this Levolution. Natural disasters such as storms will occur mid-game which will alter the maps. Henderson also mentioned that maps will have a day and night cycle as well as dynamic weather.

Battlefield 6’s gameplay

As for gameplay, Henderson gave a few details on how we can expect the game to play. Call of Duty, especially Modern Warfare, has been praised for its fluid movement system. Henderson said that he’s always felt Battlefield’s movement has been clunky compared to CoD, but Battlefield 6’s movement will be more fluid.

Character models will look more futuristic than Battlefield 4, for example, with “face masks” and “Juggernaut suits” being common.

Battlefield V returned to four-man squads, much to the community’s disappointment. As far as Henderson is aware, four-man squads are expected to return in Battlefield 6. Also, the game’s time to kill is likely to be similar to Battlefield V’s.

Henderson is extremely confident that Battlefield 6 will be a successful game, and will even bring over many CoD players. He thinks that because CoD 2021 might be across both generations of consoles and Battlefield won’t, a free battle royale mode will be there to keep Battlefield’s player count up.

Battlefield’s battle royale

Although nothing has been confirmed about Battlefield releasing a battle royale game, Henderson said that everything he’s heard points towards the game featuring one.

Henderson also said that he doesn’t know the release date for Battlefield’s battle royale, but expects it to release around midway through next year as it’s unlikely that the Battlefield battle royale will arrive at launch. As for details such as lobby size, “it’s impossible to know at the moment.”

Henderson recently drew some images from the trailer he claims to have seen, and said in the live stream that he plans on doing some more drawings in the future.

Rather than drawing the trailer again, he said that he wants to do “something a little bit different, probably on battle royale.” So perhaps we’ll get a taste of Battlefield’s battle royale soon.

Battlefield 2021’s SBMM

Skill-based matchmaking has been a contentious issue in recent Call of Duty games. The better you play, the harder your lobbies will be, and much of the CoD community are frustrated with this level of SBMM.

Henderson said that we can expect a team-based skill-based matchmaking, similar to Battlefield 1 and Battlefield V. Henderson explained that, “You get into the server first, and then the game will decide which team you’ll end up in based on the teams and enemy’s K/D.”

If one team has an average kill to death ratio of 0.9 and the other 0.8, a 2.0 K/D player will be assigned to the lower K/D team for balance.

If this is true, expect players of all skill in your matches of Battlefield 2021, making it a much more casual experience.

Like all leaks, we should take this information with a grain of salt; Tom Henderson’s information could be out of date or simply incorrect. Until details are confirmed by official channels, Battlefield 2021 is still very much a mystery.

“He thinks that because CoD 2021 might be across both generations of consoles and Battlefield won’t”

I thought it was going to be on both console generations… Glad to hear it’s not as that would really hold it back.

Really hope they don’t screw this up, as it was a big reason why I got a gaming PC (need better video card for this game)

Battlefield 2021 leaks are coming thick and fast with Tom Henderson delivering another piece of information about DICE’s new war shooter. Drawings depicting leaked Battlefield news appear to show off some dangerous-looking robot dogs.

Fresh off of the heels of the first Battlefield 6 leaked images -

https://twitter.com/Sian92984059/status/1388636035677032449?ref_src=twsrc^tfw|twcamp^tweetembed|twterm^1388636035677032449|twgr^|twcon^s1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fcharlieintel.com%2Ffirst-battlefield-6-images-reportedly-leaked%2F98196%2F

we now have extra details on what to expect during a game of the anticipated shooter.

Renowned leaker Tom Henderson has come through recently with a series of leaks regarding the game, with him revealing a whole host of info on the game’s reveal trailer, gameplay, SBMM, and also hinting that the cut crash landing feature from Battlefield V will debut.

He’s also been hand-drawing leaks and details and showing them to Twitter, with his newest creation hinting that weaponized robot dogs are coming to Battlefield 6.

With Battlefield 1 and Battlefield V both taking on a world war setting, it’s time for large-scale warfare to return to the present day.

Games like Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 were huge successes for EA, and they are aiming to take what they’ve learned from these games and make the best Battlefield yet.

Tom Henderson’s newest art suggests that combat-orientated robot dogs will be an option in the new Battlefield game, much to some dismay.

Many comments in response to the Tweet complained that Battlefield is trying to go too far into the future and make the game farfetched.

The reality is that these robot dogs actually already exist in the world .

combat war robot dog

The thought of these running around a map providing reconnaissance and maybe even attacking enemies is a fun proposition indeed.

With this being the first Battlefield game in three years, if it’s released this year, you can imagine that EA and DICE are trying to go all-out to reclaim some of the market they have lost to Call of Duty – in particular Warzone passing 100 million players recently.

Leak claims Battlefield 2021 alpha will take place in July

Battlefield 6 is officially on the horizon, and thanks to a new leak, we now know when fans of the legendary FPS series will get their first opportunity to try out the new game.

When you think about first-person shooters, one of the first games that come to mind is Battlefield. An icon in gaming for almost two decades, fans have waited two years to get their hands on another installment in the series.

With rumors flying around about the upcoming trailer, including claims that the content in it has been changed entirely, it’s no surprise that players are desperate for any shred of information they can find. Now, well-known leaker Tom Henderson has dropped some major details about a possible Battlefield 2021 alpha — and it may be happening sooner than we think.

It’s been widely speculated that we’ll see the first video trailer for the game at EA Play on July 22, but Henderson believes EA and DICE will have another big announcement to go with it.

“The Battlefield alpha should be July,” he tweeted. “With the announcement being made at EA Play. Could be a ‘Oh, and the Battlefield alpha is available to play right now’ type of deal at the end of the event.”

That would mean we would get our hands on the game for the first time in just eight weeks, although there’s always a chance it could happen before then.

There’s been plenty of leaks in the last few weeks, with discussions about Juggernauts and robot dogs, along with some leaked images too.

Of course, as with any leak, this information is not officially confirmed so make sure to take it with a pinch of salt.

If it is true though, the countdown to Battlefield 2021 is officially on, with the full title set to release during the holiday season later in the year.

Battlefield 2021 reveal date

Battlefield’s Twitter account announced on June 1 that Battlefield 2021 would officially be revealed on June 9 at 7 AM ET / 10 AM ET / 3 PM UK / 4 PM CEST.

Battlefield 2021 leak teases Warzone-like weapon loadout customization

New information from industry insider Tom Henderson has revealed that Battlefield 2021’s weapon customization may return to pre-BF1, with a Warzone-like loadout system.

After DICE teased in April that the Battlefield 2021 reveal would be “soon,” fans have been awaiting any news on the latest entry to the shooter franchise. We now finally have confirmation that the game will officially be revealed on June 9, and hopefully, fan’s questions will be answered.

Industry insider Tom Henderson has reportedly been given a ton of information surrounding Battlefield 2021. He was first to describe the now-leaked trailer (which is rumored to be different from June 9’s reveal) and has also revealed juggernauts and robot dogs that could be making their way to the game.

Now, he has given us more detail on the upcoming weapon customization, which was arguably a massive draw for fans of the franchise in the past.

Battlefield 3 and 4 were known for their deep weapon customization, allowing you to equip multiple unique attachments to your weapons. As Battlefield 1 was set in the First World War, these various attachments didn’t exist, so DICE offered players different weapon variants instead. Then, Battlefield V created a hybrid system, where you used specializations to change certain features of the weapon.

This system was widely considered a disappointment compared to the modern Battlefield games’ weapon customization. Modern Warfare (2019) and Warzone then set the bar for weapon customization with the Gunsmith system, which allows for five attachments to completely change a weapon’s aspects.

Now, it appears that Battlefield 2021 will feature a detailed weapon customization system similar to Call of Duty and previous Battlefields. New information from Tom Henderson revealed that the last he heard was there are “6-8 different changeable attachments per weapon. Similar to how CoD has been doing it in recent years.”

Last I heard was 6-8 different changeable attachments per weapon. Similar to how CoD has been doing it in recent years. #BATTLEFIELD https://t.co/Ldshekd9ES

— Tom Henderson (@_Tom_Henderson_) June 2, 2021

He then further clarified what this system would entail in a reply to another tweet. He said that weapons would receive:

  • 1 Sight
  • 1 Barrel
  • 1 Front Grip
  • 1 Foregrip
  • 1 Stock
  • 1 Magazine
  • Etc.

As with all leaks, there’s no guarantee this is true. Henderson could have been given incorrect information or plans inside DICE could have changed since he was informed. However, getting true weapon customization in Battlefield again is an exciting prospect.

Be sure to check out the official reveal on June 9, however, Henderson previously said that the teaser may leave more questions than answers.

Former General Manager of Call of Duty joins EA to lead Battlefield franchise

There has been a lot of hype surrounding Battlefield’s future release, from supposed leaked images to the gameplay reveal teaser released recently.

It seems the community is longing for a new Battlefield game, with popular Warzone player Dr Disrespect even stating his excitement for it. A new Battlefield game would breathe life into the FPS genre, especially if it can compete with Call of Duty: Warzone.

It does seem that EA is taking steps to do this. Not only have there been leaks suggesting that the new Battlefield will feature Warzone-like weapon loadout customization, but recent news has revealed that EA has even employed an ex-Call of Duty general manager.

EA announced today that Byron Beede, the former Call of Duty and Destiny general manager, has been appointed as the new SVP and GM of the Battlefield franchise, which perhaps “signals a strategic, long-term commitment to the growth of the franchise.”

Beede played a huge role in the development of both Call of Duty and Destiny, even playing an integral part in the growth of Warzone and Call of Duty Mobile, which are extremely popular.

It is also understood that Bryan Beede will also be directing the new Battlefield Mobile entity set for next year as well as a new Battlefield game. However, it does seem Bryan’s overall focus will be on developing the franchise for future growth.

Beede left Activision and Call of Duty in April 2021, when Activision announced that Johanna Faries would take over as General Manager of Call of Duty.

IGN has reported that: “Beede will report directly to Respawn founder Vince Zampella, who took over as head of DICE LA last year. DICE Stockholm GM, Oskar Gabrielson, and EA European studios GGM David Rutter will see no changes to their positions.”

With all of these developments in the background, Battlefield fans will surely be even more hyped for the release and even the reveal, which is coming on June 9 .

Battlefield 2042 release date

Finally, we have a release date for Battlefield 2042. EA and DICE have confirmed that fans will be able to get their hands on the game on Friday, October 22, 2021.

Players who buy the Gold or Ultimate editions of Battlefield 2042 will be able to play a week earlier on Friday, October 15, 2021.

Originally, the developers had said we could expect a Holiday 2021 release, leading many to think it would be late November when it would launch. The game will drop on PC, Xbox Series X / S, PS5, PS4, and Xbox One.

Battlefield 2042 storyline

As you have probably guessed from the title, Battlefield 2042 is set in the future, with the world on the brink. Food, energy, and clean water are in short supply, and failed nations have created “the greatest refugee crisis in human history.”

With the United States and Russia at war, Non-Patriated, or No-Pat- Specialists join both sides, “not fighting for a flag, but for the future of the Non-Patriated in this new world”

Battlefield 2042 Support specialist

Of course, the game is set to be full of high-tech guns and gadgets. One of these futuristic weapons is the combat robot do that Henderson drew a picture of. These are in use by the military today, but will perhaps be even more powerful in the near future setting of Battlefield 2042.

Battlefield 2042 multiplayer: Modes & Specialists

Multiplayer is the focus of Battlefield 2042, with three modes launching with the game in October. All Out Warfare is classic Battlefield, with Conquest and Breakthrough returning, while Hazard Zone is an “all-new high stakes gametype” with a “strong focus on tight squad play.”

The third mode, built by DICE LA, hasn’t been announced just yet, but will be revealed at EA Play on July 22. It has been described as a “Love letter to BF fans and aimed at long time fans of the franchise.”

The developers were excited to share that All Out Warfare can be played against AI so you can get to grips with the game and “play at your own pace, kind of feel like your own hero.”

As for crossplay, DICE have confirmed that they will be speaking more about this closer to launch.

There will be seven multiplayer maps at launch taking place in various locations around the world such as South America, Antarctica, and Asia.

Described as “massive” and “unlike anything we’ve ever built before,” these maps will feature dynamic weather, levolution, and unique gameplay elements.

For the PC and new consoles, these maps will feature 128 players which is a huge jump from the standard 32v32 maps Battlefield has had in the past. However, PS4 and Xbox One users will be limited to 64 players with “Maps tailored to smaller scale to ensure epic battles.” The gameplay and mid-match events will all be the same, though.

Kaleidoscope

Kaleidoscope is set in a South Korean city, and it’s slightly bigger than BFV’s Rotterdam. It features enterable skyscrapers, ziplines, water combat, and ‘roaming twisters.’

Battlefield 2042's Kaleidoscope map

Manifest

Manifest, one of the game’s larger maps, has players duking it out in a container yard in Singapore. As the match progresses, cranes will pick up and move containers, likely changing the map’s layout.

Orbital

Orbital is a medium-sized map featuring a rocket launch site in French Gunina on the South American coast. This is one of the maps to feature levolution, with the rocket taking off mid-match but “doesn’t always go as planned.”

Battlefield 2042's Orbital map

Renewal

Another map set in India, Renewal will offer two unique gameplay experiences. A massive wall splits the map in two, with a lush area on one side and a barren desert on the other.

Discarded

Discarded is set in India following a drought. There will be a massive ship called ‘Colossus’ that hides a submarine inside, and it’s roughly four times the size of Noshahr Canals.

Breakaway

Breakaway is the “biggest map in 2042,” which likely makes it the biggest Battlefield map ever. This massive map will have players fighting on a mountainside in Antarctica.

Hourglass

Taking place in a ‘city lost in sand,’ Hourglass is a particularly large map, being much bigger than BFV’s Hamada. A sandstorm passes through the map that will engulf the cityscape and stadium.

Specialists

Here’s every confirmed Specialist in Battlefield 2042.

Recon Specialist – Casper

Battlefield 2042 Recon Specialist

The Recon Specialist, Wikus “Casper” Van Daele, is a South African soldier best suited for players who like to take on the Scout role in their squad.

The Recon Specialist can use their Trait to detect nearby enemy’s movement with a Movement Sensor , which we’ve seen in previous modern Battlefield titles. And for his Specialty, he deploys the OV-P Recon Drone .

Devs confirmed that the Drone will reveal enemy positions and disrupts electronics, and can be controlled manually or left on auto-pilot.

Assault Specialist – Webster Mackay

Battlefield 2042 Assault specialist

Webster Mackay is a Canadian Assault Specialist, perfect for flanking enemies and getting in their faces.

His Specialty is using a Grappling Hook to quickly navigate around the massive maps and presumably create new flanking routes by scaling buildings. Mackay also features the Nimble Trait, which allows him to be a hard target by moving faster while aiming down the sight.

Support Specialist – Maria Falck

Battlefield 2042 Support specialist

The Support class also returns in Battlefield 2042 but is more like the Medic class than Battlefield V’s Support.

Maria Falck is a German Specialist who will take on the medic role of your squad, quickly getting fallen teammates back in the fight. She uses the S21 Syrette Pistol to revive and heal teammates from afar, and her Trait is the Combat Surgeon.

DICE are yet to reveal what the Combat Surgeon Trait’s ability.

Engineer Specialist – Boris

Battlefield 2042 Engineer specialist

And finally, the last Specialist revealed ahead of the game’s launch is the Engineer.

Pytor “Boris” Guskovsky will be the heavy weapons expert of your squad, especially proficient at defending objectives.

Boris can deploy the SG-36 Sentry Gun as his Specialty, which auto-engages enemies and vehicles. For his Trait, he has the Sentry Operator ability, which boosts the Sentry Gun’s efficiency when he’s nearby. Be warned though, the Sentry Gun can be EMP’d.

The final six Operators will likely be revealed for the game’s launch on all consoles October 22, but you’ll be able to get a feel for the new class system during the Open Beta, which is scheduled to go live ahead of launch.

Will Battlefield 2042 have a battle royale?

The appetite for a battle royale is certainly there, with popular streamer Dr Disrespect clearly excited by the prospect, but unfortunately, EA and DICE have confirmed that Battlefield 2042 does not have a battle royale at launch.

They said that a BR is “something we’ll have to see down the line. Within the launch scope, we do not have that intention there.”

On top of no battle royale, Battlefield 2042 also won’t have a “traditional” single-player campaign for players to enjoy, although DICE say the game as a “world [that] is still very rich with lore. All specialists, all locations, lore has a lot of depth.”

Battlefield 2042 Gameplay Reveal Trailer

The Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase showed off the action-packed Battlefield gameplay reveal trailer during E3 2021 on June 13, and you can see all of the adrenaline-fueled footage below:

The new Battlefield 2042 gameplay trailer gave fans a first look at the new mechanics, systems, and more of the game in action.

The trailer also showcased a look at the new weapon system, which allows players to change the attachments on the fly.

This is one of the new innovations DICE is bringing to the Battlefield franchise when the game launches later this year.

More information on Battlefield 2042 is expected at EA PLAY LIVE on July 22, where the third mode, currently redacted, will be revealed.

There were potential rumors of Battlefield 2042 being part of Xbox Games Pass at launch, but Microsoft has revealed that it will not be one of the titles on Game Pass on Day 1. The game has only a MP mode and is available for pre-order at $59.99 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and $10 more expensive on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

There will be an Open Beta for Battlefield 2042 closer to launch.

Already broke down and pre-ordered the Gold Edition on Steam. This game is main reason I built a PC. Just need a way better GPU.

After the Battlefield 2042 gameplay trailer dropped, fans were stunned with the crazy scale of battle, from the weather aspects to the specialists and equipment available in-game.

To keep fans hungry for more, Battlefield developers DICE gave fans an official look at just how big the Battlefield 2042 maps will be compared to previous titles in the first live briefing on Twitch.

As you could expect with the Battlefield franchise, the result is pretty drastic, which has made a name for itself when it comes to the huge scale of warfare.

Battlefield 2042 maps

In the images posted by @bravoINTEL, fans can see just how massive these maps will be when comparing 7 BF 2042 maps alongside BFV, BF3, and BF 1942’s maps.

The maps shown are Kaleidoscope, Discarded, Orbital, Borderline, Manifest, Hourglass, and Irreversible, but these names seem to be the codenames for the maps, not the official map name.

The developers showcased various map sizes, from fairly small to large, with Breakaway (Codename: Irreversible) being one of the largest maps in the Franchise’s history, much bigger than BF 1942’s El Alamein.

This is very exciting, considering there will be 128 players on next-gen fighting on these huge maps. Hopefully, the bigger maps will still play nicely on last-gen, as the player count will only go up to 64 on the older generation.

It will be great to see these huge scale maps in-game, especially with the crazy weather mechanic, which will supposedly change the look and feel of the map throughout the game and will also work differently in every match.

All-Out Warfare

All Out Warfare is classic Battlefield described on the official website as, “The next generation of fan-favorites Conquest and Breakthrough features the largest Battlefield maps ever and up to 128 players. Experience the intensity of all-out warfare on maps filled with dynamic weather and spectacular world events.”

Hazard Zone

Hazard Zone is fixated on providing a proper squad-based game mode, and the full description of the mode says, “An all-new, high-stakes, squad-based game type that is a modern take on the multiplayer experience. Hazard Zone is distinctly Battlefield, but very different from the modes of All-Out Warfare.”

Battlehub

different game modes that will be in Battlefield 2042

The third mode, built by DICE LA, hasn’t been officially announced just yet, but Tom Henderson has possibly been able to provide some insight into what to expect.

His video addressing the leaks suggest that the mode will have the following attributes:

  • “Ultimate sandbox experience
  • Remasters of old maps from old Battlefield titles
  • Specialists in Battlehub
  • Some remastered maps might not support 128 players
  • Battlehub and Hazard Zone are separate downloads
  • Battlehub will update with the Battle Pass seasons”

Tom was quick to point out that fans should take this info with a “big pile of salt,” to underline that this leak isn’t as concrete as previous ones.

Still listed as [REDACTED] on the Battlefield 2042 website, the description says, “A new way to play Battlefield is coming. Discover unexpected battles with this experience, which will be shown in detail at EA Play Live on July 22.”
