Book Recommendations

I’m looking for some book recommendations. I like Sci-Fi / Fantasy books. I’m looking for something along the lines of Game of Thrones (already read that series).

I’m currently working on the Gardens of the Moon from The Malazan Book of the Fallen series. While this series is highly recommended and people compare it to GoT, I’m just not digging. Reviews for the first book say it’s pretty rough and I have to agree. The author throws you right into his world with no explanation of things. Then bombards you with dozens of characters that you never get invested in. I’m a couple of hundred pages in and it’s just not working.

KFK recommended the First Law series which I read.

So, what’s a good series?

Check out The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson. I’m in the middle of the second book and, while not quite as epic as GoT, it has a good deal of the flavor that GoT touted. There’s only two books so far, but it’s planned to be a ten-book series, so get ready for some serious waiting if you start…

I was going to recommend the First Law series also. Caveman beat me to it.

The expanse series is good. James S A Corey is a pseudonym for a couple of writers one being an assistant to GRRM. It’s a scifi that takes place in our solar system about 300 years in the future or so. Start with Leviathan Wakes. It gets moving fairly quickly with all shit going to hell wishing the first couple of chapters. Really good book. They are making time is into a series on scifi this fall. Chad Coleman who plays tyrese in TWD will be in the series, but probably not til mid season.

I am currently reading The Witcher Series. I find it kind of challenging at times because it was translated to English but all in all has been enjoyable

I’m working on The Martian right now. I’m really enjoying this book, perfect for reading at the beach. I can’t put it down.

I finished The Martian. Great book for the shore. Easy, quick read. Very enjoyable and I really recommend it.

I just started the Mistborn series. Started with the Final Empire. I’m a few chapters in and so far I’m enjoying it. I’ll update as I get farther along.
