Destiny 2 Season of the Drifter Begins Next Week

It only seems like yesterday we were talking about the upcoming changes that were coming to Destiny 2 as part of Season of the Forge. It’s actually been three months since that article, and the second season of content, Season of the Drifter, is just around the corner. With that in mind, Bungie has confirmed exactly what players can expect in terms of changes and additions, including a new way to play Gambit.

As the title suggests, the season focuses on the lore and story surrounding the Drifter. Players will get to board his ship and will come face to face with some surprises. However, if you’re feeling like you’re not powerful enough to take on the new content offered by this season, you may be interested in the new Power Surge Bounties that the Drifter has to offer. Completing these will allow players to rapidly increase their Power level to 640 Power within “the first hour to two of your gameplay experience”.

Beginning at the start of the season on March 5th, players will be encouraged to play Gambit Prime. It’s a mode with higher risk, but higher rewards as a result. There is just one gameplay round per match so the experience is more intense, especially as there are some other rule changes. First, players can now drain motes from the other team’s supply. Secondly, here are also new mechanics during the Primeval stage that require players to work together as a team. Finally, there are new Armor sets that encourage players to assume a certain role during matches.

On the same day, Gambit will now come with the option to set up private matches, and there will be the first of two new maps released. New Arcadia is a map that’s set on Mars. A week later on March 12th, the Deep Six map that’s set on Titan will also be released. New weapons will also be coming to the mode.

Once players finish their first Gambit Prime match, they will have access to The Reckoning. It’s a PvE experience set within the Drifter’s ball of ice. Enemies will be spawning from all directions and it is described as an intense experience as players will be trying to complete the mode against the clock. The first tier will unlock on March 5th, with the second and third tiers following on March 8th and March 15th respectively. Players are encouraged to complete the mode to earn armour that can be used in Gambit Prime.

On March 12th, the Allegiance Quest will become live. Previously known as the Joker’s Wild Weekly Quest, players must choose betweenthe Vanguard and the Drifter before progressing through the quest from their perspective. Players with more than one character will be able to play through the quest from both sides if they choose, seeing as the decision is made once per character and not once per gamer.

Previously known as the Xûr Bounties, the Invitations of the Nine will begin three days later. On March 15th, Xûr will offer up a “Invitation of the Nine” mission for players to complete. Once completed, players will then receive a bounty known as “Into the Unknown” that can be completed once per character. Every week for a period of nine weeks, players will be able to collect new lore and “powerful” rewards for completing the bounty.

Annual Pass players won’t be the only ones to get new content. As the above schedule shows, there will be a new weapons and a new spring event known as The Revelry that will run from April 16th until May 6th. There is also a mysterious Arc Week scheduled to start a week earlier on April 9th, although details on this weren’t revealed.

Finally, the third season has been revealed as the Season of Opulence that will run from June until August. No details beyond the previous roadmap have been revealed, but I’m sure we’ll find out more on that soon.
