Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Open Beta — Details, Dates, And More

Activision and Infinity Ward have officially announced an Open Beta for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is coming.

As part of the reveal stream for the MP gameplay and MP trailer of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the studio has confirmed that this year’s game will in fact have a beta.

The Early Access of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Open Beta will begin September 12 first on PlayStation 4. The Open Beta will begin a few days later for all players, regardless of pre-orders.

This is the first time Activision is doing an open beta for Call of Duty across all platforms in a few years. As the PlayStation marketing deal continues to exist, PlayStation 4 players will get first access to the Open Beta via a pre-order on September 12.

Beta Schedule:

  • PlayStation 4 Exclusive Beta
    • September 12 – 13 (Early Access, PlayStation 4)
    • September 14 – 16 (Open Beta, PlayStation 4)
  • Beta featuring crossplay testing
    • September 19 – 20 (Early Access, PC and Xbox One; Open Beta, PlayStation 4)
    • September 21 – 23 (Open Beta, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox One)

If you’ve already pre-ordered Call of Duty: Modern Warfare digitally, you will automatically get access to Early Access of the Open Beta when it is available.

If you pre-ordered Modern Warfare at a retailer, please reach out to the retailer to get a code to redeem on the Call of Duty website to ensure that you have access to the beta when it becomes available for your platform.

How To Get Early Access

Each of the weekends features an Early Access Period for the Open Beta for those who pre-order Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

If you’re pre-ordering Call of Duty: Modern Warfare digitally on the PlayStation 4 Store, Xbox One Store, or Blizzard Battle.net for PC, you do not need any additional codes. You will automatically be granted access to the beta once it becomes available for your platform.

If you’re pre-ordering Call of Duty: Modern Warfare at a retailer, the retailer needs to give you a code to redeem on the Call of Duty website. From what we’ve learned thus far, if you have redeemed a code from a retailer for the Captain Price Blackout Character, you should also be enrolled for the Beta Early Access code. You can redeem your code at http://www.callofduty.com/beta. Once you’ve redeemed there, Activision will send you an email with the Beta Token to use on your platform to download and play the beta closer to the beta’s start date.

Pre-Loading

Activision’s FAQ notes that more information regarding Pre-Loading the Open Beta for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be available closer to the start date. In years past, pre-loading of the beta has usually been available for those who digitally pre-ordered the game. Beta Tokens for retailer pre-orders usually are sent at the start of the beta times, so there’s less time to pre-order the game.

Beta Content

Activision and Infinity Ward have yet to confirm the content that will be included in the Open Beta for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare beyond saying it’s an MP Beta.

The Open Beta will most likely include customization content for fans, including Gunsmith. It’s not clear if all of the modes (2v2, 6v6, 10v10, 20v20, or the Ground War) will be in the beta. We’ll update this post as Activision shares more details on the upcoming Open Beta.

Stay tuned for the latest news on the beta as we get closer to September 12. This post will be updated as more information is available, alongside new articles about new details for the beta.
