Modern Warfare 2 Season 2 release date
The Call of Duty Team announced that the Modern Warfare 2 Season 2 update is scheduled for Wednesday, February 15, 2022. These seasonal updates usually arrive at around 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET / 6 PM GMT.
Modern Warfare 2 Ranked Play arriving in Season 2
According to the devs, Modern Warfare 2 Ranked Play is arriving with Season 2. Treyarch also confirmed that Ranked Play will indeed arrive on the February 15 launch day, and not later on in the season as part of the midseason update.
For now, fans of competitive Call of Duty can scratch their itch by playing the CDL Moshpit playlist. While there’s no ladder to climb, you can use your time to dominate the opposition and practice rotations for Ranked Play.
Modern Warfare 2 Season 2 weapons leaked
Modern Warfare 2 Season 2 will bring five new weapons to the game, as revealed by the devs in the Season 2 blog. While there is no official news regarding what these weapons will be, there have been leaks and rumors.
Datamining and a new attachment added to the game suggest that the Crossbow and Vepr-12 Shotgun could arrive in Modern Warfare 2 Season 2.
The Crossbow](Warzone player shows just how bad the Crossbow is after major Season 5 nerf - Charlie INTEL) has appeared in several recent Call of Duty titles and was useable in the campaign, so its arrival would be no great surprise. The semi-automatic Vepr-12 has been theorized because Private Matches briefly showed unreleased Shotgun muzzles, and one directly matched the Vepr-12.
Modern Warfare 2 Season 2 game mode leaks
Infinity Ward are yet to officially reveal the modes coming in Modern Warfare 2 Season 2, with an announcement coming soon.
That said, according to leaks through data mining, the fan-favorite Gun Game, Gunfight, and Cranked modes are set to arrive during Season 2.
Gun Game is the classic Call of Duty party game, putting players in a free-for-all match where players receive a new weapon for each kill. The first player to get a kill with every weapon, usually ending in something unique like a crossbow or ballistic knife, wins.
Gunfight is typically a round-based 2v2 mode taking place on small maps where the players have the same weapon and equipment. Eliminating the opponents or capturing the flag secures the round, and the first to win six rounds wins.
It was already confirmed that Gunfight would be coming to Modern Warfare 2 post-launch, and if this leak is to be believed, then it could arrive during Season 2.
The same leaker also revealed an icon for what appears to be Cranked, where players have increased movement speed after each kill but must keep getting kills before the timer expires or they blow up, alongside Warzone’s Plunder mode.
One thing we do know is that the Valentine’s Day playlists are returning to the game in Season 2, as well as a new system where Infinity Ward will be putting a poll up on Twitter to let players vote on “one of that week’s playlists from a rotating pool.”
Modern Warfare 2 Season 2 Hardcore Mode
With players not fully satisfied by the presence of Tier 1 in Modern Warfare 2, a fully-fledged Hardcore Mode is being added in MW2.
Tier 1 felt more like the Realism mode featured in Modern Warfare 2019, whereas Hardcore Mode will retain its original identity from previous CoD titles.
Leak suggests Castle map for Modern Warfare 2 Season 2
On December 5, leaks revealing key art for Modern Warfare 2 Season 2 have convinced players that the classic Castle map could arrive with the update. Castle debuted in World at War and most recently appeared in Vanguard less than a year ago.
The background of this leaked Season 2 artwork showed a Japanese fortress, but it doesn’t completely resemble Castle from World at War. We’ll just have to wait and see whether Infinity Ward decides to bring back a Treyarch classic.
Modern Warfare 2 Season 2 Ronin Operator leaks
A familiar face could be returning in Modern Warfare 2 as leaks revealed that Ronin could arrive with the Season 2 update. This same leaked artwork clearly showed Ronin as the season’s main Operator so if the leak turns out to be true, Ronin is guaranteed to arrive.
Call of Duty fans have been vocal about wanting realistic military-based Operators in Modern Warfare 2 and Ronin falls into this category.
Modern Warfare 2 UI update coming in Season 2
The UI in Modern Warfare 2 has been a massive complaint for players ever since the Beta, but luckily the devs have been listening and are implementing some changes in the Season 2 update.
These changes include the following:
- Improved navigation and organization of Camo menu
- More polished Social tab, including improved channel swapping and player muting
- New “My Bundles” screen
- Quick equip items from Battlepass, My Bundles, and Store
- Reticle previews in Store and Gunsmith
- Improved clarity of attachment blocking logic in Gunsmith
- And many more bug fixes
Modern Warfare 2 Season 2 Perk Balancing
In the Season 2 blog, the devs state that they have been listening to feedback from the community about the “timing of bonus Perks,” more specifically, Ghost.
So, to help this issue, they have decided to reduce the time it takes for players to get both Bonus and Ultimate Perks, meaning that players will get Ghost earlier on in matches, which they feel better supports those looking to play more aggressively.
Modern Warfare 2 audio fixes
The audio in Modern Warfare 2 will be getting some fixes, as the game’s audio occlusion system will get a “newer and more advanced system.” This should make it easier for players to hear enemies and other audio cues through objects like walls.
DMZ changes in Warzone 2 Season 2
On January 25, the Warzone 2 developers shared a community update highlighting the new content and changes that will be included in the Season 2 update when it arrives on February 15, 2023.
In this blog post, they went over a seasonal refresh, spawn updates, a new exclusion zone, difficulty adjustments, and more. Here are all the DMZ changes coming in Warzone 2 Season 2.
Warzone 2 Season 2 DMZ seasonal refresh
After the update goes live, players’ Faction mission progress and inventory will be reset, including all contraband items and keys. So, you’ll have to hop back into DMZ and start your progress again.
This is similar to the server wipes in Escape from Tarkov that would reset a player’s progress to zero after major updates. The developers promised to reveal more information about this in another blog post ahead of Season 2.
Warzone 2 Season 2 DMZ new Exclusion Zone
DMZ is also confirmed to receive a third Exclusion Zone in the update. This means that players will have a new option to choose from when deploying in the Escape from Tarkov-inspired game mode.
So, you’ll be able to hop into either Al Mazrah, Building 21, or this new Exclusion Zone. The Faction Mission refresh will give you new missions to complete across these destinations.
Warzone 2 Season 2 DMZ difficult tuning
Season 2 will also change up the enemy and mission difficulty so that AI enemies no longer overwhelm players. This will be accomplished through adjustments to the types and number of enemy spawns as well as their accuracy at range.
The Faction Mission difficulty will also be changed in Warzone 2 Season 2 so that players are able to complete them with greater ease.
Warzone 2 Season 2 DMZ crash fixes
The developers promised to also address the issue of game crashes when playing Warzone 2’s DMZ mode. They’ve promised to reveal more information about these changes in an upcoming blog post.
That covers all the DMZ changes that have been revealed for Warzone 2 Season 2.
Warzone 2 small Resurgence map confirmed
With leaks and rumors suggesting that a new small map with a Resurgence mode would arrive in Season 2 of Warzone 2, Activision have now confirmed the content, saying that Season 2 brings “the return of Resurgence and a brand new small map for Warzone 2.0.”
While no official details of what the map could look like have been provided, the leaked Resurgence map revealed an island once again and POIs such as Castle, Port, Power Plant, and Town Center. Activision has been taking down images of the map so it could be legitimate.
Changes to Warzone 2 looting & Gulag
Infinity Ward have confirmed with a blog post that the Warzone 2 Season 2 update will bring 1v1 Gulags back to the battle royale, replacing the 2v2 method introduced for the new Warzone experience. Players have been calling for this change for some time, and it will finally be coming in Season 2.
Looting is also getting some major changes, as the devs have announced that they will be going back to the original system of loot popping out onto the floor after looting containers and eliminating players.
The Medium and Large Backpack items will also no longer be available going forward, in an effort to cut down on players stacking Killstreaks and other equipment. In addition, players will all begin the match with a 3-Plate Vest, so these items will be removed from the loot pool.
They also revealed that cash will be more readily available and further price changes are going to be made to give players more bang for their buck.
Warzone 2 loadout changes confirmed
Another key change coming to Warzone 2 Season 2 is the introduction of customizable Perk Packages, allowing players to further tailor their loadout to suit a specific playstyle. Currently, there are only a handful of premade Perk Packages to choose from, with no option to swap individual options.
The feature “will launch with a slightly reduced pool of available Perks,” but the devs have confined that they may slowly reintroduce more over time. This is an effort to ensure that matches remain balanced, although there is no word just yet on which Perks will be available, to begin with.
Infinity Ward have also revealed they are “happy” with the rollout of Loadout Drop Markers, but will be dropping the prices slightly with the next update. These items will also be lootable around the map for the first time, but the devs warned they will be incredibly rare.
The cost of individual Primary weapons is also being reduced, to give squads of all sizes a better chance of picking up at least one of their own weapons.
Warzone 2 Season 2 expected content
From another Battle Pass to new weapons, here’s everything we expect to arrive in Warzone 2 Season 2:
- Modern Warfare 2 & Warzone 2 Season 2 Battle Pass
- New weapons
- Ronin Operator
- Weapon buffs and nerfs
- Major bug fixes & quality of life changes
- UI updates / audio fixes
- Resurgence map
- New DMZ area similar to Building 21
This will no doubt excite players as these are some of the aspects of Warzone 2 that players haven’t been too happy about, wanting some of the original Warzone experience to return.
More information about these changes will be released in the upcoming Season 2 blog, expected on February 8
