CD Projekt Red has apologised for not showing Cyberpunk 2077 footage on Xbox One or PS4 ahead of launch, and has promised to “improve the overall experience,” while adding that fans are still free to ask for a refund.
In a tweet on the Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account, several key figures and board members at CDPR, including Marcin Iwinski and Adam Kicinski, offer an apology and outline plans for Cyberpunk 2077’s improvement. “We would like to start by apologising to you for not showing the game on base last-gen consoles before it premiered,” the message begins, “and, in consequence, not allowing you to make a more informed decision about your purchase. We should have paid more attention to making it play better on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.”
CDPR’s message adds that the devs aim to fix bugs and crashes “and improve the overall experience.” Cyberpunk 2077 has already received several updates, and the next one should be here within a week. Larger patches, starting with Patch #1, will arrive in January followed by #2 in February, and these should “fix the most prominent problems gamers are facing on last-gen consoles.” CDPR says we’ll learn about what’s in each patch ahead of release and that “they won’t make the game on last-gen look like it’s running on a high-spec PC or next-gen console, but it will be closer to that experience than it is now.”
CDPR adds that it “would appreciate it if you would give us a chance, but if you are not pleased with the game on your console and don’t want to wait for updates, you can opt to refund your copy.” Digital copies can be refunded through Xbox or PSN, while the devs recommend that players who bought a physical copy should try to refund it at the shop where it was bought. Failing that, CDPR has provided a contact address to be used for the next week. You can contact helpmerefund@cdprojektred.com until December 21st.
