Discord reportedly ends acquisition talks with Microsoft

Discord has halted acquisition talks with Microsoft and will remain an independent company, according to a new report from The Wall Street Journal.

The WSJ reports that Discord “fielded interest from at least three companies about a deal,” with Microsoft being in advanced talks to acquire the service for “at least $10 billion.” However, sources familiar with the matter have told the WSJ that talks between the two companies have now ended without a deal, but it’s possible they could be “rekindled in the future.”

The report also notes that Discord would rather stay independent for the time being and has an interest in going public on the stock market.

Discord has 140 million monthly users and has nearly doubled its active user base from last year. The company also topped $130 million in revenue in 2020 but still isn’t profitable, according to another report from the WSJ.

cross platform communications will be key to making crossplay work…so someone needs to blink here…either MS allows the app on their platform or discord gets purchased…but no comms=no crossplay
