Saber Interactive shared the news on its social media accounts, although a specific reason for the delay hasn’t been mentioned. What we do know, though, is that the team will continue to make it “groovy as hell” in the meantime, and the game now gets to launch on Friday, May 13th, which from a marketing perspective, is gold.

Evil Dead: The Game is inspired by the original Evil Dead trilogy and the Ash vs The Evil Dead TV show. It features both co-op and PvP game modes, which will have you attempting to seal the breach between worlds by looting, exploring, and managing your fear. Hell, you can even play as the Kandarian Demon!

While we’re excited to see what Saber has done with the franchise, delaying the game out of February is probably for the best, due to the likes of FromSoftware’s Elden Ring and Techland’s Dying Light 2: Stay Human both launching next month, as well as Guerrilla Games’ Horizon: Forbidden West on PlayStation. Those three titles are set to hog the limelight throughout February, as well as players’ wallets.

Evil Dead: The Game will now launch on May 13th for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Windows PC, and Nintendo Switch.

Evil Dead: The Game was recently featured on the PlayStation Blog, where Saber Interactive’s Tim Willits discussed many of the characters that will be coming to the game and the team’s commitment to authenticity.

When Evil Dead: The Game was delayed last month, the team said that we could expect more news about the game “soon,” and it looks like they weren’t kidding. Saber Interactive’s chief creative officer, Tim Willits, has recently given players an overview of the team’s commitment to making the game as authentic as possible. “Our talented Saber Interactive Madrid team has been working tirelessly to bring you a game that is as authentically Evil Dead as possible,” Willits writes. “From the characters to the locations to the franchise’s signature humour, and, yes, the over-the-top bloody gore that Evil Dead is known for.”

According to Willits, the team has worked closely with The Evil Dead creator Sam Raimi, as well as the studios that worked on the franchise. Many of the series’ popular character’s will be playable in the game and voiced by the original cast: Bruce Campbell reprises his role as Ash Williams — who’ll have multiple variations to play as, such as the younger original trilogy and older Ash vs Evil Dead versions — Ellen Sandweiss and Hal Delrich return as Cheryl Williams and Scotty from the original trilogy, respectively, while Theresa Tilly lends her voice to Shelly and Betsy Baker returns as Linda — although Shelly and Linda won’t be playable survivors. Additionally, Ash vs Evil Dead’s Dana DeLorenzo steps back into the shoes of Kelly Maxwell, and Ray Santiago brings Pablo Simon Bolivar as a playable character. Willits said that there are other characters but hasn’t shared any details about who else we can expect to see.

Of course, that’s just the Survivors, and they’d be pretty bored if the Kandarian Demon and its minions weren’t attempting to kill them all. The Kandarian Demon can take on many forms, and Evil Dead: The Game will allow us to play as three variations of the creature. Willits has only unveiled one so far, Henrietta, who first appeared in Evil Dead II. Each of the Demon’s forms come equipped with unique abilities and attributes that require differing strategies, and can summon Deadite minions — “We’ve been able to incorporate not only [the] fast, deadly, and otherworldly movement of the Deadites,” Willits writes. “But also their signature sound effects – the creepy laughs, growls, and screams that fans will appreciate.”

Many of the franchise’s iconic features are set to make an appearance, whether as locations or as Easter Eggs, such as the cabin in the woods from the first two films, Ash’s trailer and Delta 88 for Ash vs Evil Dead, and Ash’s mechanical hand from the TV show.
