Fallout 4 Tips Thread

Equip your settlers and provisioners with better gear and weapons you find. This will allow them to defend the settlements easier when attacked.
When you transfer say a combat rifle to a settler you also need to transfer only one bullet.
I gear out all my provisioners going from settlement to settlement cause they seem to get attacked a lot.

Apparently if the defence value is greater than the sum of the water and food production at a settlement then the odds of being attacked are reduced.

That is correct. my defense is 60 I never get attacked.

I have defense over 100 in sanctuary and it gets attacked all the time. It seems like the more time I put into this game the more I am seeing the settlements attacked.
If you look at your workshops on the pip-boy and you see an exclamation next to happiness only, then their being attacked or they were just attacked.

That is weird my Sanctuary never gets attacked anymore. I though I was being attacked last night and it turned out to be a boatfly. The turrets turned it into Swiss cheese.

It is possible I am missing the warnings and that could explain why my happiness went from 78 to 34. I think it’s dumb if you have enough turrets to take care of everything yet you still have to go and help to get credit.

Make sure you check your turrets are functional still. They have to be repaired once in awhile after the raiders attack.

Hmmm. I know they are all still moving but I haven’t really checked them. I know they killed that boatfly at the front gate.

Helpful maps:

If you have a TV in your settlement store it for now. There is a bug that makes your happiness go down. You will know it is happening because your settlers will be complaining there are not enough beds around. Even if you have triple the amount of beds.

Has anyone found or built a useful .38 cal weapon?

I’m sitting on over 200 rounds of .38 cal ammo right now.

I have messed around with modding a sub-machine gun but just cant get it to do much damage. I just end up chewing through bullets.

Only thing I use the .38 for is for a machine gun with armor piercing. Use this on robots once in awhile.

I’m not sure I’d spend the time to build cool structures like this:

Just had my worst attack so far. I left Sanctuary for about 45 minutes to go find supplies. When I went to fast travel back it said I only had 1 settler and happiness was dropping. I went back and all my crops, half my defenses, and all my water had been destroyed. All 20 of my settlers were there though and not complaining about shit.

When I left Sanctuary the Brotherhood of Steel was flying above. I wonder if they did it. I always miss the warnings.

Wonder if I have a synth infiltrator.

I have had the synths get into my settlements twice. Both times they had a big group of synths come in and try to destroy everything.
I have walls all the way around sanctuary now and still got attacked by rad scorpions that dug their way under the fence.

Dang ive nit had any attacks that i know off but im keeping my defense stupid high campared to my food and water . Almost double

I just cant seem to out out enough damage. I miss Lincoln’s Repeater!!!

Most of my settlements have defense between 35 and 45. I’m not sure what is considered a strong defense.

I started outfitting some of my settlers on security detail with mini guns I’ve picked up. A mini gun and one 5mm round…

I think having a higher defense keeps from getting attacked as much but you will still get attacked. Many times I have fast traveled to my settlement and it is just getting attacked. I either didn’t get the warning or missed it all together. Probably the second as most of the time I am focused on what I am doing.

Jackal get the perks that increase damage for your favorite weapons. I am focusing on rifles and they all are doing over 100+ damage. That and add mods.

Power Armor sinks.

There is loot at the bottom of lakes and rivers.

I also have found stuff in flooded areas inside of buildings. One were I almost died because you had to swim to the loot and back. There is a perk under endurance that allows you to breath underwater without taking radiation.
