Fortnite Season 3 adds Aquaman and floods the map

Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 3 is officially underway. The new season introduces several changes — most notably the map which is now almost entirely submerged underwater.

Following The Device event — which saw 12 million people jump into the game to watch — the map has been heavily flooded. A few areas now remain above sea level, but water now makes up a large part of the playable area. New locations on the map include The Authority, a fort located in the centre of the map and Catty Corner in the bottom right-hand corner. The Fortilla and Rickety Rig have replaced Slurpy Swamp and The Rig in the bottom left of the map.

To help navigate the submerged world, rideable sharks have been added with this Season. However, cars and other vehicles will be available later in the season. Epic says the water level will start to recede as time goes on — this will reveal new locations and new ways to traverse the map.

Another significant change is the addition of “Marauder” NPCs. These new enemies will drop onto the island in small groups and give you another threat to worry about. Marauders are similar to the Henchmen found in Season 2. Players will also be able to build their own umbrellas with Build-A-Brella — completing challenges unlocks options to customise your own umbrella.

With the new season comes a new Battle Pass which features a bunch of new cosmetics and skins including Jason Mamoa’s Aquaman.
