Fortnite is no stranger to high-profile crossovers, but Epic has taken things several strides further for Season 4. The entire Battle Pass is Marvel-themed, with eight classic characters including Iron Man and Wolverine to unlock along with a plethora of pretty neat comic-themed cosmetics.
Thor is unlocked immediately upon purchasing the Battle Pass, Jennifer Walters (She-Hulk) unlocks at level 22, Groot at level 38, Storm at level 53, Doctor Doom at level 67, Mystique at level 80, and Tony Stark at level 93. Each has a unique built-in emote that is earned via challenges that become available at the halfway point between character unlocks (or at level 100, in the case of Stark’s Iron Man transformation), and most are awesome — Mystique can shape-shift to take on the appearance of an eliminated opponent, Walters gets to hulk out, Doom reclines in his throne, and Groot can summon Rocket. Most of the characters also have additional styles that can be earned by completing Awakening Challenges. Finally, Wolverine and his associated cosmetic items are tied to weekly Challenges, with Weapon X himself set to be made available in five weeks, so around the mid-point of the season.
In addition to all the Battle Pass goodies, Marvel mania also permeates the core game, and the map is littered with all kinds of crazy gadgets and power-ups which let you pull off superhuman feats. Suffice to say, it’s going to be a pretty wild Season. There’s also a Limited Time Mode called Nexus War coming during Season 4, which looks like it will have a heavier-than-usual PvE slant as the heroes team up to take on the devourer of worlds himself, Galactus. Oh, and be sure to check out the 12-page mini-comic in the Battle Pass menu — it’s available whether you buy the Battle Pass or not, and explains how and why the Marvel heroes have been brought into Fortnite’s world.
