Coworker came to me wanting a good headset for her son. Wants a good one. I’m out of the loop. My kids break crap so I have been buying cheap ones. What should I tell her. Wireless please.PS4 is what he plays on.
Copied/pasted from another post.
I can’t help you with wireless as I don’t use them. I had the Astro A50s but was meh about them, I gave them to my oldest kid. I like the wired ones as they’re lighter and one less thing I need to charge.
If you want wired ones, here are my 3 suggestions.
SteelSeries Arctis 5 Gaming Headset with RGB Illumination and DTS Headphone:X 7.1 Surround. 90 bucks. @anon3687162 has these and can let you know how they are.
HyperX Cloud Revolver Gaming Headset Not bad for $113
Sennheiser GAME ZERO PC Gaming Headset- Black Both @Ahobbs2121 and I have these. I love them, they sound great and are very comfortable.
Again, I know you’re looking for wireless options but these only require 1 wire to the controller. Just giving you some options to look at.
Another HyperX to look at. Be careful with the HyperX headsets. I have one and it felt really tight and that’s my only complaint with them. They sound fantastic and it’s a shame on the fit.

If you choose any regular headset that you like, pair it with a boom mic for gaming. Just make sure the input fits. It will need to have a detachable cable.
Disregard the previous posts. I missed the wireless requirement. I don’t have any suggestions for wireless as I don’t really use them.
I have the Turtle Beach 420x plus wireless for the XB1, and I love them.
EDIT: Didn’t notice PS4. Whoops.
I know you said Wireless, but you really don’t need one for PS4 since the controller is wireless and you can plug into the controller.
That said, here is the headset I use and I love it:
I have 3 - though only one pair are truly wireless.
I’ll throw up US Amazon links for your benefit.
-
PlayStation Official
+ wireless
+ comfortable
+ no separate mic to get in the way / damage
+ recharged via cable
+ collapsible to take up less room / protection
+ design cuts out most background noise (passive)
+ several buttons on headset itself, including volume controls and mute
- expensive (relatively, for console)
- can give earache/headache after protracted use
- needs to be recharged relatively often
- since it’s an overhead set, for comfort they need to be over both ears, meaning you probably have to take them off to talk to anyone close by -
NUBWO
+ relatively cheap
+ look decent
+ mute switch on mic
+ comfortable
+ long cable
- not great sound quality
- might be unrelated but they also seem to have stopped working very recently and I haven’t owned them long -
TRITTON
+ cheapest
+ had them over a year and still going strong
+ can comfortably wear one ear off if needed
+ cable length is decent if not too long
+ mute switch on cable
- not great sound quality
- look a little cheap
Thanks guys. I am going to forward all these to her. I appreciate it.
@h2daddy I use Astro A50 and I love them. They’re quite pricey but I have no complaints.
I liked my A50s for my XBox. The only reason I stopped using them is because my XB1 was having issues keeping the controller connected. Thus disconnecting the A50s. Totally an XBox issue, not Astros.
So I switched and got a wired headset and my oldest stole the A50s. I have since got a XBox S (years ago) which doesn’t loose connection with my controller.
This may be a non issue now but I used (and still use for PC) Sony Gold Wireless, they are decent. I also owned a pair of Turtle Beach Stealth 400p which were my go to for a while.
