Mafia: Definitive Edition gets a new 15 minute 4K gameplay trailer

Mafia: Definitive Edition is officially getting a gameplay reveal later today, however, 15 minutes of never-before-seen gameplay footage has been uploaded via IGN.

In the trailer, Hangar 13’s president and chief creative officer Haden Blackman talks us through how the team created the remake from the ground up, including remaking the entire city, gameplay, cutscenes and adding new lighting and audio engines. “Knowing the importance of both driving and gunplay to the Mafia franchise, we redesigned all the core gameplay throughout the game while keeping all the missions, major mission beats and underlying narrative intact,” says Blackman. New period-authentic vehicles have been added, including motorbikes, as well as, weapons from the era.

Speaking with IGN, Blackman says that the game isn’t a straight-up remake, and some changes have been made, “We knew from the outset that the core narrative would hold up well. There weren’t giant plot holes that we had to shore up. The mission flow — the number of missions — we knew would hold up. The tone and central themes and setting — the Prohibition era — we knew that all those things were things that would hold up. Then, when we started looking at the next layer, that’s where we said we needed to take things up to modern standards. The way in which we tell the story, the quality of the cinematics, the representation of certain characters.”

The official Mafia: Definitive Edition gameplay reveal is scheduled for [8 am PT / 4 pm BST later today](http://8am PT / 4pm). Mafia: Definitive Edition launches on Xbox One on September 25th.
