I am on a game buying freeze until I complete the huge back log I have. I will be getting it for PC down the road.
Will be PC for me though I hate buying from Origin for some reason.
Self imposed penalties rarely work, donât they?
I have never played the ME series, and donât play on buying this, however I will try the 10hr Access trial
I will be getting not sure when. I didnât play MP in the past too many hours on single player. Looks like it could be fun with a group.
Iâm about five hours into Mass Effect: Andromeda, and so far, it seems like Bioware has created a behemoth of a sci-fi action RPG.
Some quickfire thoughts, in bullet-point form:
As many of you know, the story involves a journey into the Andromeda Galaxy, where humanity must find a new home. The task of finding habitable planets falls on you, the âPathfinder.â Wouldnât you know it, once you actually arrive at Andromeda, the âgolden planetsâ you scouted ahead of time arenât what you expect them to be. Actually, little of the colonization scheme goes according to plan, with some ships getting lost, some people stuck in cryo, others staging a rebellion, and in general, supplies are dwindling fast. The tension is immediate: youâre in a completely new territory of space and nobody can help you. Everything is going to shit. Can you untangle the mess?
Character creation seems like an improvement - I made someone who appeared human on the first go around, without feeling too much regret once I saw them in action.
The new dialogue system is MUCH better. Now there are a many different types of responses, none of which are the obvious right/wrong/paragon/renegade choices. Iâve found myself picking liberally, depending on what felt right.
The voice acting feels more natural now, because youâre not a gruff Spectre.
Combat is more intense and kinetic, largely because of the added mobility. I can run, I can dash, I can get in the enemyâs face. On normal, the game seems harder, too - Iâve died in the tutorial mission / first real mission, which Iâve never experienced in a Mass Effect game before.
I love that I can mix and match abilities, regarding of what specialization I pick.
Then again, the number of SYSTEMS and CHOICES are kinda overwhelming, and Andromeda throws you right into the thick of it. Where older games felt as if Bioware were making a compromise between an RPG and an action game, it feels like theyâve gone full throttle in both directions this time around. Combat is thrilling, but youâre also going to spend a lot of time managing resources and equipping different things.
I was surprised to find that the tutorial mission had several optional side-quests I could pursue, and that the map was so big, I had multiple path options too. In the mission you can watch above, thereâs an obvious critical path, but you can also stop and investigate more of the planet, if youâd like. So many choices! The game feels more on the scale of Dragon Age Inquisition, though I havenât seen any filler yet.
To wit, all the side-quests Iâve seen thus far were really interesting, including figuring out what to do with the first potential murder of Andromeda, to investigating who the hell keeps sabotaging some ship tech.
If you take on some sidequests, major characters will note it/discuss it naturally during conversation.
Gun customization is back, and you can add all sorts of modifications and tweaks. I accidentally gave my pistol a big scope, which made using it unwieldy.
There are so many small environmental details that pop out even in the middle of combat, whether itâs floating debris, or cool little lights lining the fancy new technology you encounter. Andromeda is a looker, and Bioware uses that power to great effectâplanets look alien.
Thereâs a whole lotta scanning in this game. Youâre going to scan everything from containers to corpses, Batman-style.
I havenât gotten to know all of the characters very well, but what Iâve seen thus far has me intrigued. The female Turian Iâve met seemed more kickass than Garrus (!). Iâve met a racist Salarian. Iâve met a veryâŚforward Asari. Iâve met a lot of people who are just trying to get by under trying circumstances. Nobody is boring. Even the most annoying characters have a reason as to why theyâre being so dickish.
This game has some of the fanciest haircuts Iâve ever seen.
The new Mako (aka the Nomad in this game) handles better, but still has some funny physics to it, depending on what youâre trying to traverse.
During certain moments, youâll get a split second chance to make a decisionâin the footage above, for example, I could decide if I wanted to shove an Asari off me. So far, these have been cool moments.
Sounds very promising. Me likey.
yeah so pretty much just like ME3. Horde Mode.
Day one patch will not alter animations that are being panned.
After playing some this morning I am going to wait for this. I have plenty to play and maybe by the time I pick it up they will have some things worked out.
I loved the jetpack, and the combat so far is good but this game has a ton of cut scenes and I just canât take them serious. In my brief time with it I am not sold on the acting either but I need more time to really judge that.
Itâs just shocking because the animations were so realistic 10 years ago not sure why they wouldnât improve that area.
Yea and people didnât just bring this up. It was brought up in videos before release and they changed it but it was worse.
Reviews are coming in.
Yes its been hard to get a review that talks about game play so much is about story and animations. Then again this is part of what brought folks to this game also. I have looked at alot of reviews including this one trying to get a sense of the game. I will most likely buy it but have been spending alot of hours on PS4 Horizon Dawn and will not get until I finish that up. Getting back logged with games.
With my brief time with it the gameplay is great, but I am one of those âimerssionâ people and the conversation scenes are hard to take serious with the lack of emotion in the characters faces and funny animantions.
If I played it right now I would skip every cut scene and conversation just to get back to the great gameplay. That is skipping the majority of the game though.

Thanks for the reviews
An article fitting for GRG.
So i got the game for PC and bought it on GMG cause they had a 20% discount. Come to realize I canât play on release day cause GMG is not releasing keys until the euro release date.
Mass Effect Andromeda will officially release in North America on the 21st of March and 23rd of March in Europe. Green Man Gaming will only be distributing the game keys on the European release date (23 March), however, we are aiming to do our best to release the keys to customers as soon as we can. Please note that we are only able to guarantee that you will have your key within 48 hours of the European release as mentioned on the product page to set expectations.
No where does it say this on their purchase page. The statement they do have is this.
Keys will be delivered either before or within 48 hours of release.
pretty lame if you ask me.
Edited to add: This statement was put out at 6:41 Yesterday on their support site. (dont know if AM or PM)
Wow that is the ultimate lame.
