Mixer Celebrates One Year Anniversary with New Features and Promotions

It’s been one whole year since the streaming site formerly known as Beam switched its name to Mixer, and judging by the numbers the company has released today, the past 12 months have been successful. In December, the site surpassed 10 million active monthly users, and there has been a 400% increase in partners over the past year. To celebrate the anniversary, the company has announced a number of new features and promotions that will be available starting today.

Direct Purchase Promotion
Direct Purchase provides stream viewers with an easy way to purchase games and content directly from the Microsoft Store, whilst also rewarding the steamer with a small kickback for their recommendation. For a limited time only, anyone that makes a purchase of $9.99 or more using one of those buttons will receive a gift of $5 in Microsoft Store credit. You can find full terms and conditions for the promotion and further details of pricing in your region here.

Free Subs and Mixer Pro
As a special thank you, all Mixer viewers who reach level 10 or higher and log into the Mixer account between May 24th and May 28th will receive up to 90 days of Mixer Pro and a free channel subscription that you can award to your favourite streamers. You can find us here if you’d like to sub to our channel. The awards will be added to your account by June 1st, and the free channel sub will expire on July 1st, so make sure you use it up before it’s gone.

Updated Desktop and Mobile Experience
Starting in the coming days, Mixer will be receiving a fresh new look on both the desktop and mobile versions of the site, making it easier for viewers to find streamers playing the games they want to watch or showcasing their talents in creative streams. Mixer partners and Pro subscribers will be first to check out some of the changes in the next few days, with more updates released in waves over the coming weeks, before the full update is available for every viewer in early summer.

MixPlay
One of the best features on Mixer and one of the main reasons why we now call the site home for our weekly streams is the sub-second video latency that allows the streamer and viewers to interact in real-time. This allowed streamers to add interactive controls to their live stream, giving viewers the opportunity to alter or even fully take control of the gameplay they are watching.

Those interactive controls have evolved into MixPlay, giving developers new tools to integrate MixPlay controls as overlays, into side panels or as free-floating widgets around the video instead of being displayed below the video, and all of these can be customised to match the look and feel of the game.

The Share Controller feature that was originally tested last month with partners will now be available to all streamers who are broadcasting from the Xbox One console, giving viewers a virtual Xbox controller so that they can get take control of the gameplay on screen.

Mixer Mini Golf, which released earlier this month, is one example of the type of interactivity that only Mixer can achieve. By seamlessly blending the game’s controls into the stream, viewers can compete against each other to set the lowest score, blurring the lines between watching and playing.

MixPlay can also be used to further the viewing experience beyond allowing people to directly change or impact the gameplay on screen. Hi-Rez Studios has used the tools to create a MixPlay-powered stats dashboard for their SMITE Pro League, which will be used to provide additional context and information about the gameplay.

HypeZone Rainbow Six Siege
Two popular channels on Mixer right now are the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite HypeZones, which gives viewers the opportunity to watch the most exciting and tense moments of the Battle Royale action. Starting today, Mixer will be adding a third channel dedicated to Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, bringing viewers action from Late Round, Overtime and Match Point situations. You can check out the new channel here.

Our next stream on Mixer will be live shortly, so if you’d like to earn your free sub and Mixer Pro, follow our channel to be notified as soon as we go live.
