In the Modern Warfare 2 release blog, Activision confirmed that Modern Warfare 2 Season 1 will begin on Wednesday, November 16, the same day as the first season kicks off in Warzone 2.
Activision confirmed that Warzone 2.0 will launch at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET / 6 PM GMT on November 16. Players can pre-load Warzone 2 as of November 14.
Upon release of Warzone 2 Season 1, players will be leveling up through a brand-new Battle Pass while exploring Al Mazrah and the new DMZ mode.
They also revealed that mid-season updates will be making a comeback, announcing that Season 1 Reloaded is coming on December 14.
Warzone 2 & Modern Warfare 2 Battle Pass changes explained
In Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 Season 1, players will be progressing through the Battle Pass with “more choices and more agency than ever before.”
Activision have scrapped the “linear stream of tiers” for a new “multi-Sector map.” Now, players will be looking at a map and using earned Battle Pass Token Tier Skips to unlock items across the map, which will be themed for whichever season the game is in.
The Battle Pass map will have “at least 20 Sectors with five items in each Sector,” adding up to 100 items. This new system allows players to pick and choose which items they would like at any given moment, rather than unlocking a certain item at a certain Tier in the old system.
Players will have control over how they wish to spend their Battle Pass Token Tier Skips, deciding whether they’d like a new Operator skin or one of the new weapons.
Players will need to decide which Sector is most enticing to them, pick it, then start unlocking the items with Tokens.
This gives players the choice and freedom to pick which items they wish to unlock within the Battle Pass and in the order they prefer.
Modern Warfare 2 Season 1 brings reimagined maps: Shoot House & Shipment
Modern Warfare 2 Season 1 is officially bringing the return of Shipment and Shoot House, two “fan favorite” maps that are on a much smaller scale compared to the maps available at launch.
Shoot House will be available at launch of Season 1, while Shipment will be arriving “mid-season,” which is most likely the December 14 Season 1 Reloaded update.
Both maps feature a reimagined design, with Shoot House being set “in the jungles south of Las Almas,” while Shipment is now on a “cargo ship taking on water in a storm-ridden part of the Atlantic Ocean.”
Modern Warfare 2 Season 1 new weapons
The Modern Warfare 2 Season 1 update will be bringing four new weapons to the game, three of which will be available upon the season’s launch:
- Victus XMR Sniper Rifle — Imperatorium Platform (Launch, Battle Pass)
- BAS-P SMG — Bruen Ops Platform (Launch, Battle Pass)
- Chimera Assault Rifle — Bruen Ops Platform (Mid-Season)
- M13B Assault Rifle — Bruen Ops Platform (Mid-Season)
Modern Warfare 2 Season 1 new Operators
The first season of Modern Warfare 2 Season 1 will also bring six new Operators, with three of them being “football-themed Operators” Neymar, Messi, and Pogba.
Here are the three new soldier Operators arriving in Season 1 of Modern Warfare 2 and how to get them:
- Zeus (Battle Pass, Launch)
- Klaus (Bundle, Mid-Season)
- Gaz (Bundle, Mid-Season)
Hardcore mode & Combat Record arrives with Modern Warfare 2 Season 1
Although announced as a launch feature, Hardcore (now called Tier 1), never arrived with Modern Warfare 2 but the devs have confirmed it’s coming with the Season 1 update.
Tier 1 Playlists are almost identical to Hardcore, featuring a limited HUD, lower player health, and enabling friendly fire. Once it arrives, it should be the perfect place to acquire the Mastery Camos.
Further, players will finally be able to see their in-game stats as the Combat Record will also be arriving with Season 1.
Modern Warfare FC event
The new season will also see the Modern Warfare FC event, where players can “sign three of the world’s greatest athletes to your Operator roster by picking up special, limited-time Bundles: Neymar Jr., who will debut on November 21; Paul Pogba, set to debut on November 25; and Leo Messi, who will complete the Operator hat trick on November 29.”
Modern Warfare 2 Season 1 CDL Moshpit playlist
The Call of Duty League kicks off in December, and to keep players satisfied until Treyarch’s Ranked Play arrives in 2023, Season 1 brings a new CDL Moshpit playlist that allows players to play like the pros — just without a rank to grind.
According to the blog, the CDL Moshpit playlist will “use the League’s standard rules, restrictions, and map rotation across all three of its official game modes: Hardpoint, Search & Destroy, and Control.”
Modern Warfare 2 Season 1 new Spec Ops missions
The returning Spec Ops mode arrived in Modern Warfare 2 on day one, but the devs are committed to supporting the feature long-term. Season 1 will add a new mission called “High Ground” on launch as well as the first Raid for the mid-season update.
The Modern Warfare 2 Raids will continue the story of Modern Warfare 2’s Campaign, and they are described as “the ultimate challenge for Trios with a mix of stealth, all-out action, and puzzle-solving objectives.”
Warzone 2 & DMZ
If all of this wasn’t enough, Modern Warfare 2 Season 1 will also coincide with the release of Warzone 2 and the new DMZ mode. However, these will come as a separate application that will be downloaded separately from Modern Warfare 2.
Warzone 2 Season 1 new vehicles
Two new vehicles are being added to the roster of original vehicles in Warzone 2. Players can expect to test out the Heavy Chopper and GMC Hummer EV Pickup when Season 1 launches on November 16.
The Heavy chopper is a “heavily armored search-and-rescue helicopter,” and it can hover in the air without a pilot. Meanwhile, the GMC Hummer EV is an electric truck that is versatile on the ground.
The devs also announced that every vehicle would have a fuel limit, putting an end to unlimited fuel in Warzone 2.0.
“No more unlimited fuel sources — all vehicles (yes, including the EV) use fuel over time, and when it runs out, that vehicle is no longer usable. Vehicles can be refilled either with Gas Cans found around the map or at Gas Stations.”
Third-Person playlist coming to Warzone 2 Season 1
A third-person playlist will debut in Warzone 2.0, but players will have to wait to test out this new mode as it is set to arrive sometime during Season 1 and not at launch.
Players will receive Warzone’s third-person mode in the weekly rotation throughout Season 1. “This shift in perspective could completely change the Battle Royale fundamentals in Call of Duty, allowing for different visibility tactics and an altered, but still action-packed gameplay feel.”
Warzone 2 Season 1 Loadouts
Loadout Drops are one of the main features that set Warzone apart from other battle royales, allowing players to grab their pre-built weapons without needing to loot for individual attachments. Players who preferred this system are in luck, as Infinity Ward have confirmed that both Loadout Drops and Perks will be available when the game drops on November 16.
Warzone 2 players will be able to utilize a few different methods to receive their full Custom Loadout. There will also be exclusive means to secure the Primary Weapon of their Custom Loadout.
Here are the three methods that players can either get a full Custom Loadout or a Primary Weapon in Warzone 2:
- Shops – Players can use in-match Cash at the Shops (new name for the Buy Station) to purchase their Primary Weapon from their created Loadouts.
- Loadout Drop Public Event – Loadout Drops will drop into Al Mazrah in the middle of Battle Royale matches. However, these are not limited or assigned to individual squads, but instead can be accessed by any players.
- Strongholds and Black Sites – Players can also earn their Loadout in the early game as a reward for clearing a Stronghold or a Black Site.
Essentially, Shops will provide your Primary Weapon from your created loadout for the right price, the Loadout Drop Public Event will provide your entire Custom Loadout, and clearing a Stronghold or a Black Site will also provide a Custom Loadout.
“Additionally, in-match Cash can be used to purchase your Primary Weapon from created Loadouts.”
Now, similar to the original Warzone], players can pick up their chosen selection of weapons, attachments, Perks, and Equipment so they have everything they need to score a victory.
Essentially, the devs have delivered more methods to receiving your Primary Weapon even before you get a chance at securing your entire Custom Loadout.
Warzone 2 Season 1 new Gulag
The devs used feedback from players at Call of Duty Next to tweak Warzone 2’s Gulag. The new Gulag will be a mix of old Warzone features with new mechanics added to the fold.
The Gulag will be a 2v2 environment where randomly paired Duos must coordinate to take down their opposition. All players will receive a predefined Loadout — at launch, this will be a Pistol or a Shotgun, a Lethal Grenade, and a Tactical Grenade — with highly effective weaponry and gear placed toward the map’s center.”
In addition, the Gulag will also include a Jailer character. The Jailer will appear in the middle of a match in order to speed up the combat when things get a little slow. If the Jailer is killed by any player in the Gulag all four members of the Gulag fight are returned to the battle royale.
They’ve also gotten rid of the Overtime mechanic. If the allotted time elapses, all players will lose their chance at redeploying.
