Announced during July’s Xbox 20/20 event, the Peril on Gorgon DLC is the first of two planned expansions. It will feature a new planet, new characters, and three new science weapons, as well as more customisation and world lore, an increase to the level cap, more perks, flaws, armour sets and gear variants. Speaking to Gamespot, game director Carrie Patel and art director Matt Hansen said that “Peril On Gorgon is a pulp-noir take on the Outer Worlds. It’s set on the Gorgon asteroid, which is the site of a now-defunct Spacers Choice facility where Adrena-Time was manufactured and developed. As a player, you’re going to be exploring that location to uncover the mystery of what happened with this project and why it was canceled so suddenly — and in classic Obsidian fashion, making some pretty important choices along the way that are going to have big impacts for life on Halcyon.”

Revealed to Polygon, the game devs have said the game should add about six to eight hours of gameplay — about as long as it took to play through the Monarch hub. A press release when the DLC was announced told us that you’ll need to have made it past Monarch to access the DLC content, and Hansen added in the Gamespot interview that “it’s pretty mid-campaign content” intended for players at around level 25 or higher. What’s more, you won’t be spending all of that time on Gorgon, but will be revisiting old areas, and exploring dungeons. Hansen mentioned that “As you’re exploring the Gorgon asteroid, you see these facades of these facilities, they’re all built into the mountainsides. And when you go in, they open up into these massive dungeons.” Patel adds that “it’s a canyon environment” featuring a lot of “verticality” while Hansen says “it’s a bit of a labyrinthine level and has opportunities to create sub-biomes within it.”

Peril on Gorgon releases on September 9th, either as an individual DLC for £11.99 (with a 10% discount for Xbox Game Pass members), or as part of an Expansion Pass for £19.99, which will also include the second DLC.
