Sony has announced that PS5 launch day sales will be online only, meaning that you will not be able to pick up the next-gen console on your region’s launch day unless you already have a preorder in place.
According to Sony, the move was made “in the interest of keeping our gamers, retailers, and staff safe amidst COVID-19.” No units will be available to purchase in-store on launch day (November 12th or November 19th, depending on your region) and all launch sales will be made through online retailers. “Please don’t plan on camping out or lining up at your local retailer on launch day in hopes of finding a PS5 console for purchase. Be safe, stay home, and place your order online,” Sony’s statement reads.
Sony also points out that those who have preordered a console for collection on launch day, should still be able to pick them up under their designated appointment time, but suggests that you confirm with your retailer before making the trip.
The PlayStation 5 launches on November 12th or November 19th depending on your region.
