According to a report from IGN Italy, who say they have received official confirmation from Sony, the PlayStation 5 will not natively support 1440p resolution, which is bad news if you’re an owner of a 1440p monitor.
For those who game on TVs, this news isn’t really relevant, as the half-step 1440p resolution is generally reserved for PC users and gaming monitors. Although the PS5 console will still work with 1440p displays, it’s likely that the console will offer an upscaled 1080p image, which is exactly what the PS4 Pro does. The PS5 can output a maximum of 8K resolution, and it seems like a strange choice to favour 8K — a resolution that nobody has really adopted yet — over the already popular 1440p.
