After leaving Rainbow Six fans hanging for more than seven years after Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Ubisoft came out swinging in December of 2015 with Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege.
Praised for its team-centric attack-and-defend PVP gameplay, cooperative terrorist hunt missions and a wide variety of maps and locations, Siege was regularly landing high atop various platforms’ most-played lists. In news that is sure to please fans, Ubisoft has announced they will be supporting Siege with another full year of content.
In 2016, Rainbow Six Siege saw four free content additions: “Operation Black Ice,” “Operation Dust Line,” “Operation Skull Rain” and the unreleased “Operation Red Crow.” Each operation added two new operators and a new map, as well as balance changes, new weapon skins and overall patches to the game. Season pass owners were able to receive access to each set of new operators one week early. After that period had passed, they became purchasable in the in-game shop for everyone. The season pass also included a one-year premium membership, which offered a boost in renown, discounts at the in-game store and extra daily missions.
It’s important to note that the season pass premium membership does display an expiration date of December 1st, 2016, so it’s looking like players will have to purchase a 2017 season pass if they’d like to continue receiving the VIP benefits in the new year, though one has not been announced yet.
Rainbow Six Siege’s last content update for 2016, “Operation Red Crow,” with a new map set on a skyscraper in Nagoya, Japan, as well as a new attacker, Hibana, and Echo, the latest defender, is scheduled to release on November 17th for season pass holders and November 24th for everyone.
