Modern Warfare features Daily Challenges with XP rewards

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is giving players many challenges and options to get more content and XP rewards by just playing the game.

A feature in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare to encourage players to get more XP rewards and potential loot rewards is called Daily Challenges.

Daily Challenges will reset every 24 hours and per Infinity Ward will be different by player to player. There’s no set list of Challenges that will be available to all players at the same time.

Daily Challenges will let players get bonus XP to help level up your ranks by playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

During our review event in LA last week, we had a set of 3 Daily Challenges, of which two offered XP rewards and one offered both XP reward and a special cosmetic emblem. Infinity Ward says more challenging Daily Challenges will have loot items alongside XP bonuses, while easier ones will just award XP.

Each weapon has 103 camos in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

Every weapon in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has 103 camos you can unlock starting on Day 1.

Yes, 103 camos. For every single weapon in the game.

These are not camos that are coming later on or to be added in the Battle Pass or shop. All 103 Camos are earnable starting from launch day.

Each weapon has a new system for camos. As detailed first in the Activision Blog post last week, each weapon has 10 camo “categories” to unlock. These categories are unlocked just by leveling up the weapon. Each of the 10 categories unlocks at different weapon levels.

Here’s the 10 categories for each weapon:

Spray Paint
Woodland
Digital
Urban
Splinter
Topo
Tiger
Stripes
Reptile
Skulls

Once you unlock a category by reaching a certain weapon level, each of the categories then have 10 variants of camos available to unlock.

The variants of the camo to unlock in each of the categories is unlocked via completing in-game challenges. The spray paint camos require certain amount of kills; others require headshots, and more weapon tied challenges to keep progressing and getting new camo unlocks.

So that’s 100 camos to unlock per weapon. What are the extra 3?

Well…unlocking all 100 camos for each weapon unlocks Gold for each of the weapons. Unlocking Gold for all weapons in a weapon category unlocks Platinum camos for those weapons. Unlocking every single camo for every single weapon gets you the new mastery camo called Damascus. More on that here…

Modern Warfare features Missions, providing direct patch to unlock new rewards

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare features many ways to earn new content just by playing and completing set of challenges.

There’s Daily Challenges, described earlier, but there’s also another feature in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Missions.

Missions are multi-step challenges that can be completed for XP rewards and bonus special rewards. At launch, there will be a set of missions that you can chose and activate. You can only have one mission activated at a time.

Each Mission Challenge will have between 5-8 objectives. Completing each objective will earn you XP bonuses or a cosmetic item. Every single Mission Challenge has a final loot reward: a special cosmetic weapon variant.

The cosmetic weapon variant is different for each of the Mission Challenges you complete.

Objectives within each mission feature different things like get 30 personal radars or get 30 kills with an Assault Rifle providing additional things to work towards in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Again, this is all for just playing the game.

Infinity Ward confirmed to CharlieIntel during our recent event that Mission Challenges in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be updated with a new set during the new post launch content seasons. But there’s a key thing to note, per Infinity Ward: the Missions will not be removed from the tab when the season ends. So if you pick up the game during Christmas or join in late, you will see all the Missions that have been released since launch and you can activate and complete any of them on your timetable – not restricted to each Season.

Defcon in Ground War mode in Modern Warfare explained

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Ground War mode has an interesting forfeit system in place in the cases where a team is unable to stand their ground in the game.

It’s called “DEFCON.”

When you see the DEFCON on the top of your screen, it’s combined with a 30 second countdown timer. This activates when one team has captured and holds all 5 flags in Domination. Once all 5 flags are captured by a single team, the DEFCON notice appears on the top of the screen.

If the enemy team is unable to capture at least one flag within the 30 second countdown of DEFCON, then a tactical nuke goes off and the match ends.

This works regardless of which team is leading the game at that point. Your team could be down over 100 points in the match, but if you get a good break – and your team secures all five flags for 30 seconds, then your team wins the match – regardless of the score at that point.

It’s an interesting addition to the Ground War mode, and one of the first times such a forfeit system exists in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

While we were playing, it was a satisfying feeling to get that DEFCON enabled especially when you are down for a majority of the game.

There could be room for some improvements here – like the timer stopping if a flag is contested or if the enemy team is on the flag, but right now, the 30 second timer keeps going until a flag is re-secured by the enemy team.

Weapons in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare have a lot of levels

Weapons in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare have been updated with a new leveling system that offers deeper progression and customization than ever before seen in Call of Duty.

Each weapon in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has between 50 and 71 levels to progress through. The level varies based on the weapon. For example, the P90 has 50 levels; the M4 has 71 levels.

You level up weapons in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare by just using the weapon in game to earn Weapon XP. While leveling up weapons in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, you also get bonus player XP.

Leveling up weapons in Modern Warfare unlocks two different things: certain levels will unlock new attachments to use in the Gunsmith, and other levels will unlock new camo classes in Modern Warfare.

All attachments in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare are earned through leveling up the weapon and can be equipped in Gunsmith, similar to the beta experience of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Weapons have 100+ attachments options, the most in any Call of Duty game ever, allowing for a deep customization and weapon changes that Call of Duty has not seen before. You can make a variety of new weapons in Gunsmith and save them as you want.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare also features cosmetic weapon variants. The cosmetic weapon variants have different looks with a set of attachments that provide a different feel to the overall weapon. Cosmetic weapon variants can be earned through completing objectives, pre-order bonuses, and more in the game.

How Cross Play works in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare officially going live today, we wanted to remind players how Crossplay works in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Modern Warfare is the first Call of Duty game to support Cross Play between PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC allowing friends to play together regardless of platform of choice.

There’s also support for Cross Progression in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, letting you transfer your data between platforms. Cross Progression works as long as you have all of your accounts linked to a single Call of Duty & Activision account.

Now, let’s go over the basics of cross play in Modern Warfare.

Here’s the details on the Cross Play support in Modern Warfare:

1. You can Opt in, or Opt out:

In Modern Warfare , players can choose to enable crossplay, allowing players to play with friends on all three supported platforms, so the game offers an opt-in choice.

2. A COD Account is Needed:

Remember, you will need a COD Account to play Modern Warfare , if you don’t have one already you can create one here.

3. Matchmaking and Balancing:

In Modern Warfare , crossplay has been designed to factor play balancing across differences in controller type. No one should feel an unfair advantage. Plus, players have choices on which control device they wish to use on any platform. Here are some examples you may experience:

· You can decide to use keyboard and mouse on PlayStation® 4 or Xbox One.

· You can decide to use a controller on PC.

· PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC players can all play against each other, provided they all utilize controllers, or all utilize KBM (a keyboard and mouse).

· You can place into a lobby where there are no control scheme filters, allowing you to play with players using both controllers and/or KBM across up to all three supported platforms.

Plus, with the addition of crossplay, we anticipate that players should look forward to even shorter lobby wait times.

4. Adding your Friends and Gathering Parties:

Using your COD Account, you are able to create cross-platform Friends lists and Parties from all three supported platforms. This unites the community by removing barriers, creating platform-agnostic friend groups. Are you a PS4 player with friends on Xbox One and PC, for example? Now you can organize parties and jump into matches with your friends, easily and quickly regardless of platform!

5. Crossplay Applicable Modes:

Crossplay supports all multiplayer modes in Modern Warfare . There are no plans currently to support Ranked Play or competitive tournaments.

This is Tavorsk District, the largest Call of Duty multiplayer map yet, in Modern Warfare

Tavorsk District is an all new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare map that is for Ground War. It’s the biggest Call of Duty multiplayer map to date, and is built with a 1:1 of a downtown city.

There’s two massive towers in the map that you can go all the way up to the roof — the 16th floors of the buildings.

This map is played with 32v32 Ground War mode right now, but there’s no details on if it will expand to support more player counts.

This map is not available in-game on Day 1, but Infinity Ward confirmed that Ground War will launch on Friday, October 25 in the game.

Ground War has two maps confirmed so far: Karst River Quarry and Tavorsk District.

Call of Duty Points not yet available in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

A popular question we always get as we get on launch day for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, many people always wonder where to get their bonus Call of Duty Points.

Bonus Call of Duty Points are currently available only with the Operation Enhanced Edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, but the Points are not enabled in game as of now.

Activision says that it will be activated in-game at a later date, and it’s not clear yet what all will be added for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Call of Duty Points (CP) will be accessible in Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® once CP are made available in game. Platform and region availability may vary and are subject to change.

The company confirmed a Battle Pass system is set to arrive later this year in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and there will be an in game cosmetic store. Majority of this will be bought with Call of Duty Points, but beyond that content, it’s not revealed what else you will be able to get with Call of Duty Points in this game.

Here’s how 2XP Tokens work in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

2XP Tokens in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare work differently than previous Call of Duty games in many ways.

In this post, we wanted to share the latest information on how 2XP Tokens work to ensure that you are in the know if you get tokens.

The biggest thing to know: the timer for 2XP tokens, once activated, will not stop regardless of what’s happening. This means that in the pre-game lobby, if you exit the game, while waiting for a match, the 2XP token will continue to countdown the timer.

You can earn 2XP Tokens from Challenges in-game, by completing the Campaign Missions, and via partnerships like Mountain Dew.

Here’s an FAQ from Activision Support:

HOW CAN I ACQUIRE 2XP TOKENS?

You can acquire XP Tokens to receive 2XP in two ways:

  1. Through gameplayCall of Duty: Modern Warfare offers several objectives and challenges that reward XP Tokens upon completion.
  2. Through partnerships – Buy specially-marked products from various retailers and partners and receive codes redeemable for XP Tokens.

HOW DO I ACTIVATE A 2XP TOKEN IN GAME?

You can see the total amount of XP Tokens you have and activate an XP Token from the 2XP sidebar.

  1. Enter a pregame lobby from the Multiplayer menu.
  2. Press L3 to open the 2XP sidebar.
  3. Highlight an available XP Token tile and press Select to activate 2XP.

Once an XP Token is activated, the time to earn 2XP in Multiplayer begins, and a countdown timer appears on the righthand side of the screen in the Multiplayer pregame lobby.

CAN I SEE HOW LONG THE 2XP TOKEN IS ACTIVE FOR?

Yes. Once an XP Token is activated, the time to earn 2XP in Multiplayer begins, and you’ll see a timer counting down on the righthand side in the Multiplayer pregame lobby.

WHY DOES THE 2XP TIMER RUN WHEN I AM NOT IN A MATCH?

There is a bit of a change to the system this year, as XP Tokens count down in real time whether you’re in a match or not, including the pregame lobby, when you are adjusting your loadout, or even if you exit the game. Therefore, we recommend only activating XP Tokens when you’re sure your game session will last as long as, or longer than the time of the XP Token activated in order to maximize your experience.

And just for the PS4 players…

Modern Warfare PS4-exclusive Survival mode details

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare PlayStation 4 exclusive mode, Survival, is available on Day 1 with a selection of 3 MP maps to play on.

Survival mode is a bonus mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare available exclusively on PlayStation 4. Its timed exclusive content until October 1, 2020.

It’s a separate, additional mode for PlayStation 4 and is unrelated to the main Special Ops experience in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Unrelated to the Special Ops Operations and Missions is an additional wave-based horde mode known as Special Ops Survival. This is an exclusive, additional cooperative mode for PS4 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players that pits you and up to three of your friends against enemy forces in intense cooperative combat on one of three Multiplayer maps. In Special Ops Survival Mode, you will fight off waves of increasingly difficult and determined combatants in a variety of experiences. Special Ops Survival Mode is exclusive to PS4 until Oct. 1, 2020.*

PlayStation released a trailer earlier showcasing a first look at the mode.

Here’s the three maps that you can play Survival mode on: Aniyah Palace, Piccadilly, and Raid.

The mode lets you upgrade your weapons through wall buys, play with three players, and fight off wave of enemies in a horde mode style experience that is similar to Modern Warfare 3’s mode. There’s not much new in this mode beyond just having the mode back, only on PS4.
