In a new video, Sony has given the world an in-depth look at the upcoming PlayStation 5, including a teardown of the entire console, which provides us with a look at the internals components.
Yasuhiro Ootori, VP, mechanical design department, hardware design division at Sony Interactive Entertainment leads us through the teardown of the console. The video begins with a brief overview of all the ports and a better look at how the console’s stand is attached in both horizontal and vertical configurations. The white side panels are then unclipped and removed, which looks incredibly easy. A convenient feature that we see in the teardown is the PS5’s two dust-catching holes. These two holes will collect dust over time and can be vacuumed out to remove dust inside the system. We also see the slot where the console’s storage can be expanded in the future.
Ootori then goes on to entirely strip down the console showing us the fan, Blu-Ray drive, motherboard, SSD, GPU, cooling solution, and more.
The PlayStation 5 launches on November 12th or November 19th depending on your region. Sony expects the console to sell over seven million units by April 2021.
