Spec Ops confirmed to return in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

Infinity Ward has confirmed during the YouTube E3 show that Spec Ops is the Co-Op mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Infinity Ward had only mentioned during the reveal that it was a elite operation mode, but now it is confirmed to be Spec Ops — returning to Call of Duty for the first time since Modern Warfare 3 in 2011.

They mentioned on stream that it is “Spec Ops like you’ve never seen before” and is cranked up to 11th power with features and how the new mode works in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The campaign of the game will tie into and carry over into the Spec Ops mode.

Here’s what Infinity Ward said on the YouTube E3 show:

Co-Op is going to be the same thing. In the previous Modern Warfare games, there was a mode called Spec Ops, and we’re going to have Spec Ops in the new Modern Warfare as well. But its Spec Ops like you’ve never seen before; Spec Ops to the 11th power. Crank the knob off, break it, and then throw it away.

It can have a narrative this time. The narrative goes across all the modes. It’s one universe. We have a saying at the studio, “consistency and continuity” in all modes. So, the story continues in all modes.

All the weapons, equipment, and more are the same across all modes in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

I can’t remember wtf Spec Ops is. Apparently I never played it.

MW3 had them. It is basically a version of Horde Mode. You can upgrade weapons, buy perks and scorestreaks. It was fun for a bit.

Ok, no wonder I had no idea what it was. I’m not playing a MW game for co-op silliness.
