Steam Machines

Well, here are the machines offered through the Steam Store, along with specs.

I have to say, the ones priced like the consoles are a bit underwhelming, and the ones that offer real power are just ridiculously priced. Unless the prices get better soon, I don’t see this taking off.

I do want the new Steam Controller, though.

yeah sony and MS lose money when they sell consoles, i didnt see steam being able to match the price. now that sony sold as many as they have i think they make a small profit on each one, but still… not gonna sell 20 million steam machines.

I built one with similar specs to the PS4 here at home for right around 450 last summer. The prices have dropped a bit since, so I’d figure a PS4/XB1 competitor would probably be slight profit or break even at worst - maybe a little better since I didn’t get any price breaks that a major player like Valve would. Of course, it’s not valve putting these together, several of the companies are known for moderate specs at a premium price. Unless someone like ASUS decides to break the barrier a little, I don’t see these doing near the business as the streaming box that Valve themselves are doing.

How much is the Steam box gonna go for? The NVIDIA Shield console is $199 and plays PC games as well.

50 bucks for the Link, and you’d probably want to get the controller, so that’s another 50. Not bad…better than what the PSTV started at.
