Revenge of the Cartels kicks off in Borderlands 3 today as a free in-game seasonal event, and runs until June 4th. It adds new challenges, loot, and weapons, as well as new enemy types and a new area, and seems to revolve around rescuing Maurice from the Eridium Cartel.
The game’s site elaborates on this: “In his continued studies of human customs, your Saurian crewmate Maurice has gotten himself mixed up with the wrong crowd, and now finds himself indebted to Joey Ultraviolet, the kingpin of the Eridium Cartel. To save Maurice’s scaly hide, you’ll need to take the fight to Joey and his gangs of underlings at Villa Ultraviolet, an opulent hideout overlooking a tropical paradise.”
Maurice will give you a repeatable quest, which needs to be completed before you can get to the villa. He’s able to open up a portal to it, but needs coordinates to do so. These can be found by dealing with some Cartel enemies. There’ll be “neon-glowing” Cartel Operative enemies floating about: killing these will alert another enemy type, and Cartel Thugs will soon arrive to take you on. The devs say there’s a chance these Thugs will arrive alongside an Underboss from one of the Eridium Cartel’s three gangs: the CryptoSec, The Burnt Ends, and The Purpatrators. While this seems like a lot of enemies, taking them all out will reward you with the necessary coordinates.
Each gang has its own Underbosses and Legendary loot pool. Aside from these, there’s also themed cosmetics to be won by completing the event’s 18 time-limited Challenges. Completing three challenges rewards the ‘VECH-tor Graphics’ ECHO Device Skin, six rewards the ‘Retro Outrunner’ Weapon Trinket, ten the ‘Framed Firewall’ Room Decoration, 14 the ‘Hotline Pandora’ Vault Hunter Head, and 18 the ‘Death by Filigrees’ Vault Hunter Skin. Challenges can be tracked in the event tab of the ECHO Device, and the event itself can be turned off through the Main Menu.
Revenge of the Cartels runs until June 4th.
