While playing Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, most players are unlikely to pay too much to the background art as they loot and shoot their way around Washington D.C — after all, it’s background art, it’s supposed to blend in fairly seamlessly. Perhaps we should be however, as it seems Ubisoft (or a cheeky artist at Ubisoft, at least) has teased the setting of the next Assassin’s Creed game. Originally noticed publicly by YouTuber JorRaptor, numerous posters in the Potomac Event Center show somebody dressed in Norse clothing whilst holding the Apple Of Eden, indicating a trip to the Viking Age.
This setting would then be independently confirmed by Kotaku’s Jason Schreier, who certainly has a track record of being on the money when it comes to upcoming Assassin’s Creed games. He also revealed that the game, code-named Kingdom, will release in 2020 — which tracks with no new Assassin’s Creed in 2019 — as well as hinting that they may release on next-generation consoles.
The Viking setting would certainly be a sensible choice at Ubisoft’s end. While it may not be as requested as a fully-fledged Japanese/Asian Assassin’s Creed , it’s not uncommon to see it suggested by series fans as a potential setting. In addition, a Viking-focused title would certainly make use of sailing and ship battles that returned in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. We’ll know for certain when Ubisoft decide to make it official — perhaps at their E3 conference on June 10th.
