Warzone 2 Leaks and Rumours

Call of Duty YouTuber NerosCinema claims to have received a ton of information about Warzone 2, including a new way to get your Loadout, huge loot and armor changes, and more.

After months of leaks and rumors, a sequel to Call of Duty: Warzone was officially confirmed back in February. Referred to as ‘Warzone 2’ for the time being, all the devs have revealed so far is that it’ll be “disruptive” and a “massive evolution of Battle Royale.”

However, as we approach Modern Warfare 2’s official reveal, there have been a ton of leaks surrounding MW2 and Warzone 2. The latest set of leaks come from CoD YouTuber NerosCinema, who has a source that claims to have played the game early.

While we advise taking this information with a grain of salt, insiders such as Tom Henderson have corroborated that “a lot of this is true.” Here’s everything NerosCinema leaked for Warzone 2, including Loadout system changes, a looting overhaul, and the new map.

Warzone 2 Loadout system overhaul leaks

While NerosCinema‘s source claims loadouts are still part of Warzone 2, the way that you get your hands on them appears to have completely changed.

Apparently, Loadout Drops will now be locked behind ‘Strongholds’ where players need to complete objectives such as defusing a bomb and killing AI to access their loadout. However, some believe that the source might actually be talking about the Escape from Tarkov-inspired ‘DMZ’ mode.

Major Warzone 2 looting change leaks

Nero’s source reportedly said that ground loot will remain much the same with weapons already having all of their attachments, but they’ll just be limited to five.

From these leaks, Nero believes that Warzone 2 will be more like Black Ops 4’s Blackout than the original Warzone was. Similar to Blackout, you won’t spawn in with any armor and you’ll need to find a satchel to equip plates.

There will reportedly also be a “bag system” for inventory management. Similar to other battle royales such as PUBG and Apex Legends, this bag will only allow you to hold so much loot in your inventory, and you’ll need to manage what you want to carry.

This bag can carry things like Killstreaks and even a third weapon, so you can have your two main weapons and a third for backup. However, carrying large items like weapons will take up “the vast majority of the bag.”

Also, Pro Perks will reportedly “return in some capacity.” Pro Perks featured in 2009’s Modern Warfare 2, where players could complete a set of challenges to add more features to their Perks, such as Commando Pro removing fall damage. This also leads Nero to believe they’ll be in Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer as well.

Brand-new map & firing range reportedly coming to Warzone 2

Warzone 2 will reportedly launch with a brand-new map that features High Rise from the original Modern Warfare 2. Plus, lining up with a previous leak from TheGhostOfHope, a fully functional firing range should also arrive.

Nero’s source claimed that this new firing range will show damage numbers when you shoot targets, so you know exactly how much damage your weapon is dealing at each range.

As a side note, the source also claimed that while sliding existed in the build they played, slide canceling was impossible. Slide canceling has long been a controversial topic, where players can cancel a slide to reset their tactical sprint and break cameras. It remains to be seen whether the mechanic will be completely scrapped or just isn’t present in an early build.

Industry insider Tom Henderson claims that its new map “looks more like Blackout” than it does Warzone’s Verdansk and Caldera.

Although Call of Duty: Black Ops 4‘s Blackout never reached the same level of popularity as Warzone, it’s still looked back on fondly by its players. Many preferred the more traditional battle royale mechanics, and the map is looked back on particularly fondly.

Unlike Verdansk’s skyscrapers and Caldera’s thick jungles and steep cliffs, Blackout’s map was far more flat and open with distinguishable areas that featured classic maps.

While leaks have indicated that the upcoming Warzone 2’s map will be set in central America, industry insider Tom Henderson claims that the sequel’s map is more like Blackout than Warzone.

Activision confirmed back in February that they were developing a sequel to Warzone alongside Modern Warfare 2. Very little is known about the next CoD battle royale, but there’s been a ton of leaks surrounding it.

It was initially suggested that Warzone 2’s map would be set in the desert, then insider TheGhostOfHope claimed that the map would be inspired by Medellín, Colombia.

Not long after YouTuber NerosCinema leaked that Warzone 2 would be more like Blackout than the original Warzone was, with new Loadout mechanics and an inventory system, Tom Henderson said the map will resemble Blackout as well.

“The new Warzone 2 map looks more like Blackout than it does Warzone in terms of its layout,” tweeted Henderson on May 18.

With Henderson paying particular attention to its layout, it’s possible we’ll see the map divided up into more distinct regions with the POIs being built around classic maps from the Modern Warfare franchise — High Rise has been leaked for the new map, after all.

We’re likely months out from any official reveal for Warzone 2 and its map, but if these new leaks are to be believed, Blackout fans should have a lot to look forward to with Warzone’s sequel.

Of course, all of these leaks need to be taken with a large pinch of salt. Assuming they’re true in the first place, internal plans could change and all of this information could be inaccurate by the time Warzone 2 releases.

Warzone 2 reportedly brings interrogation system similar to Rainbow Six Siege

The only official information we have surrounding Warzone 2 is that it’s in development alongside Modern Warfare 2 and will be “disruptive” and a “massive evolution of Battle Royale.” However, insider Tom Henderson and YouTuber NerosCinema have dropped a ton of leaks.

Henderson claims to have revealed all of the Warzone 2 map’s POIs, including the classic Modern Warfare 2 maps they’ll be built around, and also expanded on Nero’s claims that there will be Strongholds, Pro Perks, and a new inventory management system.

In his May 20 eXputer report, Henderson claimed that Warzone 2 could feature an interrogation system similar to the one found in Rainbow Six Siege.

Both Rainbow Six Siege and Fortnite have featured an interrogation system where you can force a downed opponent to reveal their teammates’ locations. While reportedly still “in its early stages,” Tom Henderson claims that a similar interrogation system will be present in Warzone 2.

In his latest Warzone 2 report, Henderson described how “approaching downed enemies will show the ‘Interrogate’ prompt, of which your player carries out an execution-style animation to kill the player.” After the player is dead, their squad’s location will be revealed on the mini map.

The interrogation is apparently very similar to the current revive animation where you inject the player with a Stim — “or maybe it’s a truth serum.” This process will take around six seconds to complete, so it sounds like a high-risk maneuver.

Henderson said it was suggested to him by several people that it’s “more of an ‘add-on’ to the execution animations,” but he can’t guarantee whether or not it will make it into the full game.

Of course, it’s worth taking all of this information with a grain of salt. Assuming the leaks are true in the first place, internal plans change, and this could all be out of date by Warzone 2’s launch.

Here’s every Warzone 2 POI leaked by Tom Henderson:

  • Oasis
  • Wartorn
  • Quarry (Quarry)
  • Oilfield
  • Modern City (Highrise)
  • Caves (Afghan)
  • Dam
  • Marshes
  • Harbor
  • Sira
  • Observatory
  • Mountain Town (assumed Favela)
  • Graveyard
  • Oldtown
  • Shipwreck
  • Fishtown
  • Fort
  • Airport (Terminal)

Tom Henderson expects there to be even more Modern Warfare 2 maps inside these POIs but couldn’t confirm the information.

Leaked Warzone 2 Strongholds explained

In the video, NerosCinema briefly discusses how loadouts in Warzone 2 are expected to be locked behind areas called Strongholds. According to leaks, players must complete a set of tasks or objectives within a Stronghold to access their loadout.

Tom Henderson’s report discussing the leaks provided additional details regarding Warzone 2’s Strongholds. In terms of their placement around the Warzone 2 map, Henderson confirmed that “there are around 25-30 of them spread out across the entire map.”

This is around the same number of Buy Stations that you’ll see in a current match of Warzone.

As previously mentioned, players will be required to complete a set of tasks in order to “take” a Stronghold. These tasks could range from defusing a bomb to defeating enemy AI. The important thing to note is that the Stronghold objectives will vary in difficulty, “there are several different tiers of Strongholds too.”

Tasks of greater difficulty are said to provide the most valuable rewards, “presumably, the harder the stronghold, the bigger reward.” This new dynamic element will allow players to judge the risk and reward of attempting to take a Stronghold.

Strongholds could act as a new strategic layer that forces players to calculate their next moves in Warzone 2. Once a Stronghold is secured, it cannot be taken a second time. Panic could start to set in if you’re forced to travel to a distant Stronghold in order to secure a loadout.

Modern Warfare 2 leak claims major changes are coming to skill-based matchmaking

Well-known Call of Duty RalphsValve has claimed that Activision have taken steps to address the many complaints about skill-based matching in the franchise, starting with Modern Warfare 2.

Skill-based matchmaking is one of the most controversial features in Call of Duty history. Designed to match players with opponents of equal skill, many fans of the series claim it makes the game too difficult to enjoy, with players required to constantly play at their best to win.

In older versions of the franchise, SBMM wasn’t a factor, so it was easier to jump into games with random opponents and find success. For some, public matches now feel like work, and fans have spent years begging Activision to scrap it entirely.

While that doesn’t appear to be the case, leaker RalphsValve does claim that Activision are aware of the complaints surrounding the system, and have actually assigned one of their studios to work on refining and improving it.

Writing on WhatIfGaming, RalphsValve states that Demonware have been specifically tasked with revamping skill-based matchmaking, with someone close to Activision reportedly revealing that the system is “complicated, but pragmatic,” and they are “always looking for ways on improving every facet that contributes to a product’s success.”

With that in mind, teams have been working on a new system that accommodates players of all skill levels. According to RalphsValve’s source, the new SBMM framework will feel less punishing for high-skill players, while still allowing low-skill players to say in lobbies with opponents of similar talent.

The source also claimed that there are plans to incorporate Bot Pools into both Warzone 2 and the rumored DMZ mode, but only for those who have extreme difficulty playing the game. Disbanding lobbies will also remain in Call of Duty for the foreseeable future, with the source claiming that the franchise’s SBMM system would “collapse” if they were removed.

The report suggests that skill-based matchmaking only became a focus for Activision and Call of Duty’s development studios after 2019’s Modern Warfare, when they started to plan for the system’s future development and maintenance.

How this new system will work remains to be seen. While some players will remain frustrated at reports that the player base will be divided based on skill, it appears that SBMM is going nowhere.

CoD leaker shows off Warzone 2’s map & swimming mechanic

Call of Duty insider Tom Henderson has drawn what he claims to be Warzone 2’s map, teasing that it will feature a swimming mechanic.

Although Infinity Ward are keeping quiet about Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone’s sequel, insiders such have Tom Henderson claim to have leaked a ton of details. Alongside a new interrogation mechanic, Blackout-like armor and bag systems, and Pro Perks, a rough look at the map is supposedly out in the wild.

After Call of Duty leaker TheMW2Ghost drew a recreation of what they claim to be the map, industry insider Tom Henderson has drawn another version of this map with a couple of POIs labeled and also teased a swimming mechanic.

On May 21, Tom Henderson shared another drawing of the previously-leaked Warzone 2 map, showing exactly where a couple of classic Modern Warfare 2-inspired POIs are set to be located.

Warzone 2 players can expect to see Quarry in the north-west of the map, Modern City (Highrise) in the north-east, Caves (Afghan) just north of the middle, and the Airport (Terminal) in the south-east.

Henderson’s map is almost identical to TheMW2Ghost’s, and while they believe that this map will feature in both Warzone 2 and the DMZ mode, other leakers TheGhostOfHope and RalphsValve claim there will be several DMZ maps.

Another interesting part of Tom Henderson’s leak is where he wrote at the bottom: “A lot of sea here! Good job you can swim!”

TheMW2Ghost’s map showed a large river cutting through the center of the map and there’s set to be POIs such as Marshes, Harbor, Shipwreck, and Fishtown that could all take advantage of a swimming mechanic. Leakers have been comparing Warzone 2 to Blackout, and swimming appears to be just another reason why.

Call of Duty have announced that Modern Warfare 2 will be released on October 28, 2022.

The devs announced the release date through a video showing off Modern Warfare 2’s key art and characters. It was later announced that the official worldwide reveal would occur on June 8 at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET / 6 PM UK. In addition, the Modern Warfare 2 Campaign reveal will occur during the Summer Game Fest on June 9.

Call of Duty 2022: Modern Warfare 2’s new engine

After Modern Warfare 2’s official announcement, Infinity Ward also confirmed that the 2022 Call of Duty title will be built on a brand-new engine, which the company has “been working on for years,”

This new engine is meant to improve players’ experience on all platforms, and the developers have also confirmed that they will use it to lay the foundation of a “new Warzone experience” in Warzone 2.

11 New Features Coming to Warzone 2

Interrogation Feature

Although this feature has not yet been mentioned online, Warzone 2 will have an interrogation feature that all players will have access to. The interrogation feature is very similar to the interrogate feature in Rainbow Six Siege, where players can interrogate downed enemies to reveal their teammates location.

Interrogation Feature

Interrogation

Approaching downed enemies will show the “Interrogate” prompt, of which your player carries out an execution-style animation to kill the player. Once the player is killed, their teammate’s locations are shown on the minimap.

The interrogation feature seems to be in its early stages, with the current animation just being some form of Stim Shot animation, where you inject the player (or maybe it’s a truth serum)! The whole animation and process currently takes around six seconds.

It’s unclear whether or not this feature will make it into the final build of the game, but it has been suggested to me by several people that this is more of an “add-on” to the execution animations that we’ve seen in past Call of Duty titles.

Armor Vests

Armor Vests

Armor Vests

As briefly mentioned in NerosCinema’s latest video, armor vests are making a return. This time though, armor vests appear to be a hybrid of the armor system between Blackout and Warzone.

This time, players will need to find a tiered armor vest in order to equip armor plates.

Armor vests range from tier 1 to tier 3, with each tier allowing you to equip one more armor plate. Your armor vest does not break, but your armor plates do, meaning you’ll need to replenish your plates after you get hit, just like within Warzone.

Bag System

Bag System

Bag System

Sources have said that the bag system is in early development, and things are still very fluid with how the system might be for the final game.

Essentially, it’s very similar to Escape from Tarkov, where players can add ammo, killstreaks, and weapons to their bag. Different bag tiers allow you to you have more storage space.

Example of how the Bag System works (not accurate numbers).

  • Ammo – Takes up 1 Slot
  • Killstreaks – Takes up 4 Slots (2 by 2)
  • Assault Rifle – Takes up 6 Slots (2 by 3)
  • Sniper Rifle – Takes up 8 Slots (2 by 4)
  • Tier 1 Bag – 10 Slots (2 by 5)
  • Tier 2 Bag – 15 Slots (3 by 5)
  • Tier 3 Bag – 20 Slots (4 by 5)

This means that players can place several different items in their bags depending on the size of the bag.

It has been suggested that at this moment in time, you cannot “flip” weapons to add to your bag as they can only be placed horizontally, at least for Warzone 2.

If you’re not familiar with games like Escape from Tarkov, then the new bag system is basically a more complicated version of the bag system from Blackout.

It’s unclear if the bag system will be the exact system across both modes, but the foundations have been laid into what to expect.

Pro Perks

Pro Perks

Pro Perks

Pro Perks is something that some older Call of Duty fans will be familiar with and are essentially a better version of normal perks, and they are coming to Warzone 2.

Pro Perks are obtainable by looting Strongholds & although some Pro Perks were on pre-determined classes during the recent Warzone 2 playtests, it’s not entirely clear whether or not Pro Perks will be able to be used on your Loadout as you might need to loot and use them in order to get an extra edge.

Strongholds

Strongholds

Strongholds

Essentially Strongholds are locations scattered around the map that are guarded by AI and have objectives within them.

Completing the objective and mission will grant you your Loadout, in addition to other goodies like Pro Perks and Killstreaks.

Attachments

Attachments Warzone 2

Attachments

Weapons in the game are only going to have 5 attachments instead of 8. It’s one of the changes to the weapons system but the loot will remain the same.

Loadouts will be predetermined like the previous warzone and won’t be like Blackout. You can’t find your individual attachments and equip them.

New Map

High Rise Warzone 2

High Rise

A new map has apparently been tested for Warzone 2. High Rise from Modern Warfare 2 is this rumored new map coming to the game.

It will be separate from Verdansk and Caldera. Both of these maps are still going to be in the game eventually. Only time will tell if this is the case from the start or if they are available after a while.

No Slide Cancelling

Slide cancelling warzone

Slide cancelling

Slide cancelling is apparently not present in this build of Warzone 2. You can slide in the game but not cancel it, at least yet.

It is just a small side not but every ounce of info about the game is very important. So, even the absence of slide cancelling is something worthy of note.

Firing Range

Firing range Warzone 2

Firing range

Warzone 2 will mark the return of Firing ranges in the franchise. You can go here and test your weapons like in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

Rumors say that the feature is also very good this time. Numbers will actually appear indicating the power each gun has. So, such addition is very welcome to the sequel. I mean who doesn’t like going to shoot dummies and testing out their guns.

Medellin Inspired Maps

Colombia inspired map Warzone 2

Maps in Warzone 2 will take much inspiration from the city of Medellin in Colombia. Leaker Hope on Twitter is responsible for this leak.

You should take it with a grain of salt as it isn’t even remotely confirmed as of now. But, some reports suggest a new Call of Duty game takes place during a Colombian cartel drug war. So, the info does line up with each other.

Satchels

satchel warzone 2

We have already talked about the new armor vests system. Now, to quip these armor vests you will need to locate something called satchels.

If you want any kind of armor you need to find these satchels first. So, this is another change coming to the armor system in Warzone 2.

As with all leaks, please take the information with a pinch of salt. Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 are still in active development, and with still 5-6 months of development time from release, things may change.

I also want to make it clear that although previous Modern Warfare 2 maps from the original game are coming to Warzone 2, it doesn’t necessarily mean they are coming to the premium title as 6v6 maps, at least on launch.

With Infinity Ward now having a two-year release cycle, it is possible that we’ll get to see all these maps over the two years, but not necessarily on launch. So keep your expectations in check.

Update May 22: A video has now leaked confirming several pieces of information about Modern Warfare 2.

Call of Duty 2022: Modern Warfare 2 SBMM rework

Skill-based matchmaking has been one of the most controversial aspects of Call of Duty titles, and a report from CoD leaker ‘RalphsValve’ claims that the developers could be aiming to revise the SBMM to be “less debilitating” in Modern Warfare 2.

According to this leak, the devs aim to make games feel less strict, but Modern Warfare 2 could still keep the controversial feature of disbanding lobbies after each game comes to an end.

RalphsValve’s source claims that the new SBMM rework will be less punishing for more skilled players and low-skill players will be able to enjoy fair games with opponents of a similar ranking.

The source also added that Bot Pools might be integrated into both Warzone 2 and the DMZ mode for players finding the game too difficult. Disbanding lobbies will not be removed from the SBMM system.
