The Xbox Series X team has detailed the Optimised for Xbox Series X badge, which will identify games that “take advantage of the full power of Xbox Series X”.
Speaking on the latest Xbox Wire post, Xbox Wire editor in chief Will Tuttle says “When you hear a game has been Optimized for Xbox Series X, you’ll know that the developer has either natively designed or fully rebuilt their game to take full advantage of the unique capabilities of our most powerful console ever.”
Games with this badge will be either new titles specifically designed for the Xbox Series X — Tuttle’s example is Halo Infinite — or older titles which are enhanced, such as Gears 5. A game with the badge “can showcase anything from virtually eliminating load times via the Xbox Velocity Architecture, heightened visuals and hardware-accelerated DirectX raytracing powered by our custom, next generation GPU, to steadier and often higher framerates up to 120fps.”
If a game has been Optimised for Xbox Series X, it will give you “groundbreaking visual fidelity” via the DirectX 12 Ultimate with “support for hardware-accelerated DirectX Raytracing”, for “more dynamic, realistic environments… true-to-life lighting, accurate reflections” and “3D spatially accurate acoustics in real time”. You’ll also get “higher, steadier frame rates” with the goal being 60 frames per second at 4K. Tuttle says some games will be able to further and offer 120 fps. Lastly, this badge will confirm you’ll get better loading times via the Xbox Velocity Architecture (XVA): a “custom solid-state drive, custom hardware and integrated software.” The Xbox team has also given a list to confirm which titles will be optimised for Xbox Series X, although this list might grow with new additions:
