BTW, page two of this article from Forbes has a great tip on disabling hardware updates from MS. It really helps with keeping bad drivers from coming through.
I would also recommend anyone to backup before attempting this upgrade process.
Pfft…backups are for wusses.
(I do recommend this as well, although I didn’t backup mine when I bit the bullet)
Yes. This should be standard practice. Also I always recommend people should be backing up daily. Plenty of routers, NAS devices that offer this, or you can go with a service like MOZY.
I don’t backup ever. The only thing I would loose is time and maybe something graphic wise for GRG. I bit the bullet and so far I like it.
Edge is supper smooth but I see it uses up memory like Chrome. Not a problem for me, but may be for some that don’t use chrome for that reason.
Can you get rid of the search bar next to the windows button?
As far as I’ve seen, you can only get rid of that by going into Tablet Mode.
I like Edge, but there’s a lot it can’t do. Also, it’s super slow at playing youtube videos, even though it wants to force the default quality of the video to the lowest possible.
Well then i won’t be using it.
Not sure what the deal was…I’ll check it again tonight, but I put Chrome back to default after trying to play videos over lunch.
I did not have an issue with YT on Edge/
BTW this trailer looks pretty bad ass.
No issues so far with YouTube on my side either.
I’ll do a reboot and see if it helps. Chrome seemed fine, but Edge was acting up.
Ok, checked some settings, and I wonder if the smart filter on Edge was the problem. I turned that off, and youtube videos were starting at a default of 480p and letting me switch to HD without issue like Chrome.
Ok to hide the search box in your taskbar…
right click task bar > scroll up to search > mouse over to “hidden” > left click “hidden”
BAM!
So, after a reboot, I once again had no sound. After a quick search, I found the problem - my soundblaster X-Fi Fatality won’t have a compatible driver for Win 10 until likely October, since Creative is putting older products on a longer timeframe for drivers. What a bunch of bullshit. You’re telling me, they couldn’t get a driver out for their cards (the newer cards are estimated at August sometime), but Realtek could have support for their mediocre on-board stuff a month ago?
As a result, I’m using the onboard sound with my rig right now. It’s ok, but not great.
My kid ran the upgrade on his PC last night. I’m not a fan of in place upgrades for OSs but it seemed to work well. I may do my PC at some point. I’ll go the in place upgrade first but I’d like to do a complete fresh install. That PC could use it.
I’D ALSO LIKE MY INVITE TO THE XB1 PREVIEW PROGRAM @anon42851937 @beers_and_leafs!
Once you upgrade and it shows the license is activated, you should be good to go as far as doing a fresh install. So far, other than that sound issue, my PC has been running great under the upgrade, so I won’t worry about it until necessary.
I sent you a invite about a week ago. It says they will send them eventually.
Yes thanks @anon42851937 and @beers_and_leafs!
Go on vacation already, will ya?
